On the Profit Accumulator (PA) Advanced Calculator I came across the 'Underlay'...I have started to underlay bets as for a few pence off a guaranteed profit it could provide a chance of winning bigger money.

Is there anything to know or worry about doing it this way?

If it's only a few pence I can't imagine it being an issue

It seems like a great way of increasing profits and worth the extra for a PA subscription (among all of the other benefits!).

I usually underlay when doing a Qualifying Bet on the footy (as typically you are betting on the favourite) - so zero loss if it wins. Don't usually on horses as the favourite is less likely to win.

Would one of you mind posting up an example of underlaying vs not, so that I can see the difference it makes?

TIA.

I've been looking at the advanced calc for qualifying bets too. Very useful bit of kit. I suppose it depends on how much more you're willing to foreit if it doesn't happen to come off.

Would one of you mind posting up an example of underlaying vs not, so that I can see the difference it makes?

TIA.

An example would be:

Standard

You could lay 7.84
Liability will be 64.30
Bookmaker Bet wins 7.45
Exchange Lay wins 7.45

or

Underlay
You could lay 7.53
Liability will be 61.75
Bookmaker Bet wins 10.00
Exchange Lay wins 7.15

So if you wanted to risk the extra pence then you could get a full profit amount on your free bet - this example came in for me on Sky Bet and I gained the whole £10 free bet.

Obviously there is a risk you could just lose all of the pence you risk every time you bet but it might be worth something to a person who feels they are confident in the outcome.

I hope this helps.

Underlying is useful if you're matching a free bet at relatively high odds, but you're still essentially 'mugging' on a shot to nothing with the profit you could have locked in. I find it most useful for horse racing arbs as one big underlay coming in can be amazing.
