I'd love to do this too so will have a look on my council website. Last time there was a bit of an OAP clique that "do it every year" and I'm not part of the clique. I will try and infiltrate.
Yes I remember this has put me off in the past, but they must need new blood sometimes

You will find that most Councils will be in need of staff. Even if they fill all of the posts, there are always some people who drop out, so you can still get offered a job. Once you've done it once, they'll usually invite you each year.` If they've not advertised yet, just drop the elections team an email, if you're interested.

The other thing to add is that if you work as a Poll Clerk a couple of times, you can then apply to be a Presiding Officer in future years, which carries more responsibility, but pays more (at least that's the case at the Council I work for)

Yeah that's the case everywhere

The electoral commission set the rules for the country as whole, the local councils just carry them out ;)

I'm a poll clerk every year, it works out nearly a 16 hour day but it actually flies by. I'm lucky to be placed at the same station every year with the same people so the day goes fast. Its good money though and quite fun too. There are other ways to work during the elections, canvassing before elections, preparing the postal vote (although this was the most boring thing I've ever done in my life and won't be doing it again whatever they pay! lol) and can also do the count after

I did that for 2 years on the trot around September / October time and it paid really well but it's very manual work!

I've not done this before but have heard it takes a long time do to and lots of walking!
It's a lot of walking
a lot of knocking on doors
and if you are very unlucky can involve some pretty grim blocks of flats that you are going to in the nighttime that smell of both weed and urine

but apart form that it's lovely lol

I worked as a clerk for the referendum and they have contacted me to work for a few elections since then. I don't have any transport and can only work my local station which i always state on my application but they keep assigning me to places that are too far away for me to get to so its really frustrating.

Spent a while searching but can't find anything in pembrokeshire:(

Email a couple of councils directly-just ask them if they have started recruiting Poll Clerks or Counting Assistants yet. You'll probably find at least one needing staff.

I can understand counting through the night at the General Election, but for local elections they really should count the votes at a more civilised hour.
