Are these worth it. The dots are currently 3 for 2 and im seriously considering one or 3 lol
I was on the fence but since getting my echo I am well impressed with it
Would I pay the extra £30 for a Echo over a dot, YES but only if you want a decent(er) speaker in the room

Thanks Jon are they easy to set individual profiles on. I am thinking one in the living room and one in each of the kid's rooms. but not sure if that is wise as yet.

Ok so our set up is

We have a Sonos in #matchedbettingconservatory
We have an Amazon Echo in the living room

Both the Wife and myself have 2 separate Spotify accounts
When we play music through the sonos we can just connect to it directly and play
With the Echo it's a little more complex in that you can create different profiles so both the Wife and myself have an account on the Echo so that when I Want to play music in Spotify through it my songs don't appear on her playlist history on Spotify and visa versa

We've found there is a way to avoid this anyway by saying 'Alexa, Spotify Connect' and then you can to the Echo and play normally.

The #matchedbettingconservatory I take it this was bought via Matched betting hence the name. I love it. Im starting a new 10 year plan soon. I am coming up 35 Money has always been a issue and hoping Matched betting can help with Orlando and a Home Purchase. I know @katykicker has recently been able to fund a home with Matched Betting so hopefully 10 years I can have our First official own property with A big chunk paid off.

I haven't actually bought my house (yet), but I've got 6 figures ready and waiting! So lucky / grateful! x

Well today we've had a new smart boiler system fitted

ykeQuY8.jpg

It's completely controllable via Alexa so I can say 'Alexa, turn the heating on' or 'Alexa, set the temperature to 22 degrees' it and just does it!!

LOL Newbies :p The Nest thermostat was my first smart thing, Dunno what one you have there, but the Nest you can control with an app, it learns about you, knows when you are in out asleep and adapts to suit, it also sees when you are within a mile of home and turns heating on if set to... also works like yours with our Google Home... same idea just tell it what you want... your next gadget (if not got already) will be lights...Phillips Hue is excellent

You guys are gonna be so screwed when the Russians drop a giant EMP bomb on us all. Meanwhile I shall be putting some more logs on the fire and listening to some music on my Edison phonograph.

Late to this conversation but a point I really want to take up from the first page, where people with disabilities being an "edge case" where such automation is helpful. I see what the user means, but consider that how accessibility devices get cheaper is that they're rebranded as convenience devices. That goes for a lot of things, including wheelchair blankets with sleeves snuggies/slankets... So as such, I'm all for that! (especially as a chronically ill/disabled person)

I don't have any voice controls enabled in my home as personally I feel iffy on the security/data aspects. I would definitely be interested in controlling stuff like heating, lighting etc with my phone via an app though. Could be amazing on bad pain days!

I used to like the echo. But now my children have made it play Santa Claus is Coming to Town every morning repeatedly for the last week (in May!) I've gone off it a bit! :(

haha, what a nightmare!

Ours still gets daily use no matter if its for playing the radio, spotify, controlling lights, controlling heating / water system.

I want to buy a small echo to put upstairs and put some more smart bulbs up there I think to carry on the automation!

Ooh we've got some lights, but not made it as far as heating yet! I do like being able to do the lights though, although again, we foolishly got some coloured ones and now we have kids arguing over what colour to have! We use it loads for radio too.

Ah we've just got regular Hive compatible bulbs - these ones https://amzn.to/2KTs2Kc

The heating solution was quite expensive but we were getting a new boiler so threw in the smart functionality at the same time since it made sense. it's ridiculous the things it can do!
