I was put off Market force as I don't actually like fast food. I also thought it would be very difficult to make any thing on one of their jobs. A lot of jobs round me seem to be betting shops. My son used to work for Wetherspoons and he could tell a mystery shopper at once by the strange order they had to give.

I find some companies take ages to pay you. You have to pay for something up front then wait two or three weeks for a refund. You also find that sometimes firms commission market research when they know they have a problem. So they may have problems with their call centre that they are aware of but it is you that has the ten minute wait for someone to pick up.

That is the bad news the good news is that I actually enjoy mystery shopping and find I can make a few pounds on it or have money towards things I enjoy. Last year I had a toy shop visit just before Christmas which pleased my grandson.

It's two things with me, like most of the apps there are little to no jobs in my area on Market Force (the one's which are available are betting shops which having never visited one in my life I'm not too comfortable with and would stand out like a sore thumb! hehe.)

And with MarketForce I worry I wouldn't remember the instructions and miss something - this would be such a me thing to do!

Companies want you to be incognito and take lots of photos, which immediately outs you as a mystery shopper.

Plus if you spend money travelling somewhere and they reject your report you've done your money

I do agree with this, although there has only been one occasion where my report was rejected due to a blurred photo which I stupidly didn't check.

With regard to StreetSpotr, I've had some issues with BK managers getting stroppy because I'm taking photos. Even on showing them the Letter of Authorisation, some are refusing permission. Frustrating, because you don't get the money if you can't complete the task. That is a bit off-putting.

I have to say though, the McDs tasks on StreetSpotr are ridiculously easy. In and out in about 2 mins.

I do some Grass Roots shops but they are pretty infrequent. That said I did two in one day at the weekend.

Overall, combing smartphone apps and Grass Roots, I'd be fairly confident in clearing £250 per month if I do some hoovering up in and around my area. That makes it worth it to me.

I am waiting for about £100.00 in payments at the momment but also about £100.00 in expenses to be refunded. I could earn more if I was less fussy what jobs I accept. So far I have only had one report rejected when I could not get a rep to give me his business card. I went somewhere to photograph a poster and found the shop was getting ready for a refit. I took a couple of photos as evidence and was still paid.

I remember when I used I first joined MarketForce and was gobsmacked at the work they had available with jet2 and how much it paid for a weekend away with flights + hotel + spending money.

I applied every time it came up!

It's not actually too difficult if you break it down, though I accept that you'll need to (a) have free days / times (b) be persistent (c) be quick (d) never miss opportunities (eg don't drive past a MS location without taking it on).

I regularly travel out and about at the weekends. I reckon that I cover off around 30 tasks per month on StreetSpotr, maybe over the course of a couple of days. That's immediately £120 in the bank, though it can be more. Each task takes no more than 5 minutes when you get into it.

BeMyEye is worth keeping an eye on, but as a guide last weekend they released lots of Co-Op missions. Yes I travelled around 60 miles but picked up £90 from those alone (there were tons of them around). Currently lots of bar jobs on there which I might look at this weekend.

Then on Roamler there's money to pick up too. Currently averaging about 8-10 tasks on there a month although it's a bit quiet right now. Maybe £50 from that each month.

The figures don't include Mystery Shops but they're quite thin on the ground.

There's your £250, factor in my tank of diesel that I use and net profit is £200ish. Two or three full days of earning per month would get you that, easily. It can be tiring and hard work though when you're walking into your sixth Burger King!

The good thing with apps rather than mystery shopping sites is that you don't (usually) have to make a purchase. Sometimes I haven't done mystery shopping assignments because of the initial cost and waiting a month to get the money back.

I was put off by the McDonald's ones I used to do. The staff knew exactly what you were doing and it made it very uncomfortable. You even had to fill in the form in store!

I love the apps, but I am still selective about which ones I do. I will not do any that require me to ask staff members questions or order drinks in a pub etc.

Ive recently started mystery shopping. If I had the time to do all the available assignments and prepared to travel a bit, I reckon I could easily grab 200 a month. But for at least the next year I havent got the time. But what it has outlined to me is that if a single person were to do this, they could quite easily get away with not having to buy much food for themselves. In April Ive done three pub dining assignments. Early May Ive got three supermarket assigments - no fee but spend a tenner each time and it gets reimbursed. Also two assignments at a lunchtime ish takeaway. I didnt know there was so many MS agencies about, assuming Market Force to be the market leading sole runner. But theres loads with equally good reputations, Ive signed up to loads of them!
