There is good money to be made from reselling used picture frames. You see lots of these for sale at car boot sales and charity shops. Many are priced at 50p to £1. As I type this I am looking at ebay where there were 9 wooden frames sold for £39.99 plus £7 postage. The largest of these are 11.5 " by 8 " and so, would fit in a reasonable box and could be sent by carrier for about £6,50. Notice the extra 50p gained on postage. I doubt any of these was more than a pound. Profit wise you would make around £29. It is well worth studying the picture frame market and ideally suited for a beginner. If your pictures come with glass make sure you use plenty of newspaper between each item. When listing state that you will wrap well, but that the buyer is buying the frame only should a breakage occur. I have never had it happen, but it could. Alternatively, just look for glass free frames.

Was at the car boot this morning and there were dozens of frames, some as low as 3 for a £. Easy money for anyone making the effort.

A little story about NOT arriving early. There were two jumble sales. I had friends with me and we picked a particular one to go to (the farthest away) . Found nothing. Went to the other sale on the way back. Now, anything any good at a jumble sale is snapped up VERY quickly and I expected to find zilch, especially as it had been on for about nearly an hour. However, on the book stall was a book complete with dust jacket and looking in pristine condition. It was by a lady called Donna Leon and the title was Death in La Fenice. It was her first book and was dedicated to a friend and signed with her phone number. I cannot remember whether I paid 10p or 20p, but it sold (to a book dealer) for £92. It pays just to keep looking!!

Sounds like an idea. I;d go for a set of 10 at 50p each and shoot for £40 plus postage but the frames would need to be carefully checked condition wise. Keywords are key as well. Vintage is always a popular one!

I have sold frames on many occasions. If you give it a shot try and buy the gold coloured ones.

Be interested to see how you do on this @Andrew if you decide to give it a go. Seen quite a few people flogging them (or posting about flogging them) on ebay and as long as the market isn't too saturated you should be able to turn a profit ;)

I need to buy some picture frames actually. I always forget to take a list of sizes I need with me to boot sales.

Had my best and most unusual boot sale find last weekend. A 1933 copy of Mein Kampf with a dedication on the first page from a Nazi Political leader to a party member thanking him for his service in their district. Cost £20 from someone who semi knew what it was but should fetch £70+ sold in the right market. Will be keeping it in my collection though.

Must have been fascist day at the boot sale because I picked up a period magazine with an article about Mussolini from another stall the same morning.

What tools are you buying them to get this sort of markup?
Hi Jon
If possible, I buy a box load. The key to getting great mark ups is to know the makers from the past. Even now, I find the odd saw etc. that I don't know. It's like I have been saying all along knowledge is king. There are lots of dealers where I go, but most do not have my general knowledge about lots of objects. Some dealers even keep items for me knowing I will pay 50p to a pound, but not that I can get (say) £10 each for them. I love dealing and I suppose that is why I do well because I have a memory like a sponge for manufacturers names etc. Specialist tools always do well and I have seen planes sell for over £5000!

August is the worst month of the year for me and very slow. Only two sales this week.
Made a profit of about a tenner on a home décor item and just over forty on a couple of tools. Let's hope things improve!

August tends to be slow for lots of things. Holiday season I guess.
