Got to work there until Christmas time but come January I am officially unemployed!

My plan is to go full-time self-employed but man am I going to need some kind of structure around my days as I have no desire to work from the living room 5 days a week with Homes under the Hammer on in the background!

Not even sure how I feel about it all really, just want it make it through to Christmas!

Yeah well we'll see..

I suppose the plus side is It's not like I am leaving work with nothing to go to except a new unproven website Idea.

I am 5+ years down the track so am already hitting the ground running, it's just a case of having more time to design more websites and services now I guess

Congrats Jon... yeah i had to leave my job of 10 years last week as hours were getting less and less (zero hours) certainly cant get by doing online earning, so, i changed jobs have my first real shift on tuesday, meant giving up on being able to do Task Apps all over the place, but task apps are also very lean just now so not too bothered Best of luck

Congratulations! I'm self emplolyed mostly but employed 1 day per week. Been that way or fully self employed since 1st January 2011. Over the time I've had about a dozen busiensses and teens of income streams but my bookkeeping & acciunting services has been constant throughout the time. Don't think I will ever go back to 100% employed :D

I found the keys to beign self employed are:
  • Having a separate work area - even if that just means a desk in a corner you can shut away behind a screen if you want too.
  • Make sure you get out and about at least once a week to a networking event or talk or tyraining or coffee with friends.
  • Don't have daytime TV on in the background! If you need background noise then music.
  • Having a plan and scheduling my time
  • Get the boring tasks done or they pile up (you just know how I am so sure of this one.....)
  • Get exercise regularly, preferably outside the house.
  • Loads more but I won't bore you!

Have fun, this is a fasntastic opportunity!!!

Wow - Wasn't expecting that.

Sounds like you are already forming a plan, and you have until after christmas to get everything ready you need, which is a nice little buffer period.

Good luck.

Awesome! Sounds very exciting :) Let us know how it all goes.

I seem to be slightly randomly heading in the opposite direction at the moment... I realised I could get promoted at work for more money or get another job and get more money. Either way I could potentially get myself a significant payrise. So not exactly winding down, but it would cut the number of years I need to work down as I don't tend to spend tons of cash.

First of all - good luck with the new lifestyle!

I have read what Ginnybean has said & that has covered off a fair few good points.

I do my stuff partly at home & partly out of home, taking advantage of free wi-fi where possible. I walk to these venues so therefore getting some exercise & where necessary some time to think things over in my head. I try to use places that are normally quiet during the day so I can concentrate.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the words

Exercise has been a HUGE part of my life for probably 4+ years now and I currently run 2-3 times a week and I want to keep that up so am planning do my runs first thing in the morning instead of when I come back from work which is what I do now!

Yeah big move.

The change isn't 100% because I want to work from home full time but is more I at least have that option so can leave work at least do that from the start and see how things go!

Congratulations @Jon for making the decision! You’ll be great!
I also handed in my notice this week, I have a new job which is mostly from home. I’m also thinking about doing a walk/run in the morning to mark the start of the day. Also need to make sure got the right desk/chair etc.
Sadly got three months notice to work which is gonna be frustrating as I’m excited to move on

Brilliant Jon.

Personally quit a job last January that I'd grew to hate & went self employed. Wound up taking some fairly casual shifts alongside that to make ends meet during quiet periods but by and large it's been a great decision - health, happiness and financially.

One of the stranger things I found was a love of swimming and health suites. I'd have laughed in your face previously but it's a great way to start/break up your day.

Keep us up to date!

big move must of been very daunting sending that email/handing your resignation letter!

does this mean new sections to tms, are you branching into other areas?

It will mean more websites outside of the 4 I run at the moment without a doubt!
