Morning everyone!

American Express are launching their Shop Small campaign again soon!

AMEX customers are entitled to a £5 credit when you spend £10 or more at selected retailers.

In order to be eligible: you must register the offer to your AMEX account (via the online account) from the 1st November 2017 and the offers will come into force from 2nd December so great for small Christmas gifts, perhaps!

I believe this does work with the affiliate AMEX cards, such as those offers via MBNA, Lloyds (Avios) etc.

Enjoy your day!

A great way to further utilise your money is by putting existing spend through a credit card that has rewards (American Express being one of the main ones.) If you can hit a spend target by just moving your pre existing spend onto a new card. The points can be redeemed for amazon voucher, flights, hotels and much more! For example to fly British Airways with luggage off peak to Berlin & a return back is 9000 points (air miles) & £35 'taxes' where as the same flight was £255 return with cash. It's one of many examples and obviously BA isn't always cheapest it just depends what you are looking for!

I've attached the pricing I found

I was applying for it and reading the things and it looks like they rape you with interest... I doubt they'd accept someone who has an income of £15K a year. The guy's week work for amex probably earn more then that in a week.

It's only worthwhile if you can pay in full each month, so you pay no interest. So spend on it like you would a debit card.

My sister earns 12K a year and she has one :)

Yeah so I pay off everything I've spent during the week every sunday evening but do what works best for you, pay it off straight away if you want or even just once a month if you are good at money management :)

As long as you pay the balance off by the statement date once a month you'll pay no interest on it

For those who want a free American Express card - I would recommend the cashback card.

I have just received a free year of using the Calm app :)

Hi all, looking to get an Amex reward/cashback card. Could someone please help me decide which is best? I don't really want an annual fee for the card, unless the benefits well outweigh the cost!
Are "points" better than cash? What's the conversion rate, and can you get any good vouchers or is it all too good to be true?
Cashback is simpler so was planning to go that route, but happy to be convinced otherwise if anyone has any insights!

Thanks

I had the Amex Gold card, but I was referred so my first year was free. The points turned out be okay with 4 free hotel night stays. However, I am with you, I don't like paying the annual the free cashback card is the best option.

After 12 months, the cashback you have accumulated comes off you're next monthly statement.

If you need a referral link, I can send one to you.

I've written an in-depth look at reward cards here - https://pointsuncovered.com/earning-points/what-is-the-best-travel-credit-card/ - you may find it useful in making a decision!

It's difficult to know, I think I need it spelling out like if you spend £2000 on your card that = x points which is equivalent to a flight here/hotel stay here/shopping voucher of this value.

I think I'm safer with a cashback card, at least I can work out what 0.5 is! Haha
Thanks for your help all!

I have posts for that too :)

But yes cashback is simpler :)

To work out what points are worth in cash just times the number of membership reward points by 0.00475 so the gold card sign-up bonus points are worth £47.50

Until the 21st November, there is a boost on redeeming points on transactions so they would be worth £67.50
