God they are so expensive aren’t they!!

I mean unless you go down the route of some weird brand you’ve never heard of that added cost once you’ve bought a 4K TV was just too much of a barrier for me. You need to get a decent make (LG,Sony,Samsung etc.) because you’ve no doubt spent £££ on the TV and the last thing you want to do is plug in some low rent player into it!

When BluRay came out I bought a PS3 and it was amazing as a console and a blu-ray player.

The PS4 has been a great blu-ray and console.

I expect the PS5 to be amazing ....but if they bring out another PS4 Pro Slim Advance X and put a 4k drive in it, I will probably pass until the PS5 comes out.

my understanding is that the PS4 Pro doesn't even play 4K movies in disk form!

It doesn’t have a 4K drive. I think sony made the PS4 pro on the cheap. We will still see a ps4 pro slim before the ps5 comes out. :(

With the ps3, sony made a loss on them when they came out but wanted to put ‘cheap’ blu ray players in homes.

yeah they lucked out with the ps3 with blue ray winning the way against HD-DVD

It just seems not that the Pro can output games at 4K but won't play any movie discs at that level!

Nice little thing today form iTunes. If you buy an HD film on there and the 4k version comes out your version automatically gets upgraded. I bought all the alien films last year in a bundle for a few quid but the only 4k versions includes were Prometheus and Alien Covenant. Well today Alien in 4K got released in both Physical and Digital form and so today on my AppleTV i noticed the 'boxart' for the film had changed and when I go in it's now the 4K version ;)

The first one is the best.

The 2nd one is second best.

The rest are all bullshit.

Watchable bullshit, but bullshit none-the-less!
did you not think Predators was good? I quite enjoyed that.

£12.99 just to have the first 2 in 4K is worth it for me lol

Predators? Was that the Adrian brody one or the ridiculous final one?
The Adrian brody one was watchable but still crap.
The final one I watched but felt it didn’t need to be a predator film.

Part of the reason I don't 'buy' digital films.

So-long, 4k films I've purcased (and perhaps paid a premium) to be replaced with films in not as good quality.

And this comment below says it all lol
This is why you should always buy a 35mm print of any movie you want to own. They can't downgrade it to 16mm when it's in your projector!

You mean you don't?

:D

Joking aside, I came from a family of video tape owners. In fact, a family member has 1000+ videos up in their loft with a brand new, but tested, video player.

Personally I own a lot of DVD and most are burned onto a NAS (don't call the po-po!) like my own version of Netflix. Its great as it is all films/TV that I love - all killer, no filler!

I have read more than one report of paid for movies being removed from various platforms due to rights issues. The same for Kindle books. I own most my kindle books in hardcopy for exactly this reason.

I see they have resolved the missing 4k versions but it does highlight one of the 'challenges' of digital media.

Those DVDs though are 720p and always going to be 720p. That wouldn't increase unless you went and bought the same film in Blueray or 4K.

If you buy digital stuff gets naturally buffed upwards (unless you own a WB film lol)

They are going to be 720p but do you know what, I'm happy with watching that. Some of them might be less due to the way I ripped them.

But tomorrow they will be there.

In 20 years they will still be there.

In 40 years they wont be, but I'll be 80 and probably taking part in a virtual world like Ready Player One so wont care.
