I thought I'd share something that Google Analytics has shown me.

I think we all know where a lot of my traffic is heading on my blog  but there are other posts that interest people. These are some of the monthly stats for some posts from the last 30 days.

Can You Use Bluetooth Headphones on a Plane? - The Reverend281
How To Create A Passive Income - 10 Ideas For You To Try - The Reverend72
Are Premium Bonds Worth it? - The Reverend26

I know they aren't massive numbers, and my top post of the month has 50x more page views, but I'm proud of my 'other' content and that it is being read by people.

:)

Set your own goals...in the end the race is long, and only with yourself.

Want to know why those 3 blog posts are doing well for you?

The subject keyword is a question and then you provide the answer so google of course likes that as it’s easy to match you page with the users intent

A post about “my top ten eBay deals” would be less so...

My top post from google are "National trust properties to visit near Bath" and " What is bonfire night in England?"
I presume the passive income post is full of affiliate links so it lives up to the title.

Target wise for me it’s about more clicks

Getting traffic isn’t a problem at this stage but converting that to clicks is key and why I’ve started implementing “call to action” bars and buttons on my more meaty affiliate posts to help give readers a nudge in the right direction!

See that first title is a great long tail keyword - google loves location centric stuff

So if I wanted to write a blog post about finding a local plumber I would probably drill down like

Leeds Plumber
Plumbers in Leeds
Plumbers in north Leeds
Qualified plumbers in North Leeds
Qualified bathroom fitters and plumbers in north Leeds

I have no idea on the volume or difficulty of those terms I would have to look up the “Leeds plumbers” term in a key search tool and see what it throws up!

I wrote it ages ago so I wasn't sure and just checked.

I hadn't thought about it like that. The headphones post came about as I'd heard conflicting things myself and want to do a bit of investigation. It certainly doesn't make me any money from any of the AffLinks

Maybe I need more posts like that.

People go to Google to ask a question usually. How do I do xyz, where is xyz, what's the best way to xyz etc.. Your blog posts should be answering these questions but again you would need to look at metrics like search volume and difficulty to figure out which keywords to focus on that would bring you the most traffic

Another goal I'm trying to get to is harnessing 'push notifications' which I currently set up over on the blog. I think it's a BIG way for me to connect with people who just use the blog and not the forum so I have no way of contacting them via email.

So far people clicking 'accept' has been great but it gives me the ability to push new blog posts to them and also push time-sensitive affiliate/referral messages as well which would get delivered via Chrome / Safari / Android devices

Everything sure is changing out there!!

Traffic and reads are great but I'm also interested in what those people do after arriving on the post. For example:

Did they read other pieces? If not, it's worth looking at internal linking
Did they convert or begin to convert? If not, it's worth amending with a CTA
Can you do anything with those numbers? For example, can you suggest a newsletter sign up for related reading?

Where possible, It's worth thinking about where next to go with your readership.

I think everyone has their own idea of what they want from their blog. I blog for me, about things that I do or that interest me.

But I also don't have any colaborative posts so a lot of the other things which other bloggers find important.

I'm currently spending around 30mins a week now just doing PURE SEO work. Which will either require me to modify an existing post or work on yet more Internal linking!

I'm hoping in 3-6 months when the posts I've been working on start ranking properly I REALLY see a payoff as much like when you first start blogging it can be a bit depressing to be putting in loads of work and not getting the results of your hard graft until a good few months later!

I spend zero minutes a week doing no SEO work and I'm reaping exactly no rewards now and doubt I will in the future!

:D

My next goal is to get on MediaVine as someone with similar stats to me is getting $500-$600 a month from those ads.

This is an interesting tool that attempts to aggregate the topics/ answers people are searching for.

https://answerthepublic.com/
That’s a useful tool for using within a blog post but I wouldn’t use it to generate an entire blog post as it doesn’t give me any information about keyword volume or competition

I have just sold my first paid guest post to redwigwam. Strange because they asked for posts and I offered them one about mystery shopping for them and they looked at my blog and chose something different.

Congrats. What is your blog? Can't see a link on your profile on here.
