I drive the Kia Niro PHEV, and honestly, its the best car i have ever had, and my last 3 cars were new mercedes. Its been 100% reliable, well equipped, quiet, comfortable, spacious, and currently averaging 340mpg. Obviously this is based around me using it mostly in electric mode (100% battery) but even when it switches to hybrid, it does excellent mpg.

ah well I'll just suck it up and carry on. It's not like my 2018 Corsa is a shit show or anything I just REALLY like the idea of an electric car. We do a LOT of short journeys much like you however when we go off to see families down south it's quite a drive and petrol costs can REALLY mount up!
I would also say that the new Corsa electric I think is meant to be around £25k list approx, which could be quite a chunky payment per month on a PCP.

Then of course, you can compare to something like an Aygo for £10k or under (there are more cheaper cars like the Dacia range) which will of course have a higher fuel payment but a much lower monthly finance payment than an electric equivalent.

Still think they've gone the wrong direction with electric vehicles and the hydrogen fuel cell is a better system than a big heavy battery with limited capacity.

It's def where things are heading. Audi's new Electric vehicle comes out in 2020, as does VW and now Vauxhall.

I struggle to think of a technology that's got introduced in cars and they have then gone backwards on it at a later date to be honest.

There was something in the paper recently about the Met’s usage of electric and hydrogen vehicles and it came out about half, where electric vehicles were mostly used for shorter journeys around London, and then I think they used the hydrogen vehicles for longer distance journeys.

I think the more long term aspect if you predominantly do short journeys is the reduction in car ownership more than the use of personally owned electric/hydrogen cars; eventually evolving into a mass Uber style use of transportation.

Some think autonomous cars are a long way off, but could be here in the next 10-20 years.

The beauty of battery vehicles is that the network is already in place. All that needs to be worked on is range and charging times, and the range of the better electric vehicles will already cover 90% of the driving that most people do.

I think they’re great.

I personally couldn’t own one because I can do over 300 miles in a day a few times a week and also the fact that they are expensive and depreciate very heavily.

But again: don’t you think unless you can really afford an electric car, the large upfront cost of the electric vehicle negates any potential saving made in comparison to a new cheaper combustion engine variant of the same and/or similar car to an electric version?

But what about all the people who live in flats or don't have a driveway. How are they supposed to charge their car up at night once they get home?

Just to return to this topic - we’ve just come to the end of our pcp lease and we are returning the 2018 corsa for a 2021 Version. I think I made a mistake by stupidly doing the MOT+ SERVICE at year 3 and then having conversations with the dealership about swapping the car as I’ve basically wasted £220 putting the car through those for no reason. What I should have done is gone in to swap the car at 2 years 10 months BEFORE it’s first MOT!

Wanted it but THOSE MONTHLY PAYMENTS (£300 odd) if you don't put down a decent cash deposit was just too much.

I'll come back to it in 2 years 10 months and see if the prices have come down on them!

From this, I'm guessing PCP is good? We have looked into it and it seemed good but that was from a worker of a car garage..
If we were to buy an older car we would have to put it on a 0% credit card, so it seemed better to go down the PCP route and have warranty.

My Dad (And OTHERS!) say with PCP you are just paying off the depreciation off basically each month and then you swap it to a new car at the 3 year mark.

So far on this journey I've had two pre-reg cars and paid around £150 a month for the first corsa and £170 a month for the new one (which I thinK i'm picking up next week).

I've paid for service (£100) each year and an MOT on the 3rd year which as I said above I didn't actually need to lol

Yes you get warranty for the first 3 years but I've never had to use that. It has literally only been back to the dealership for the 3 services lol

Oh yeah, when I returned the car because it only had 11,000 miles (due to covid and us never really going anywhere) we actually had equity (£2000 odd) which got put towards the new one (hence another low monthly payment on the 2021 corsa)

@The Reverend might have some views

@lyns86

Picked up the new car yesterday. Vauxhall didn't seem bothered about the condition of the car itself that I was returning. They had a look around and a look inside but by that point they had already agreed on paying out £8k for it.

I literally just signed a few forms, handed them the keys and then drove away with the new 2021 Corsa. Was in and out in about 10 minutes! Super Simple!

The plan is i'll now keep this one for 2years 10months and then do exactly the same just before the 3 year warranty ends.
