Why do people not commit to long term online money making?

Reading @Dmelom post yesterday on the Earnings thread got me thinking.

They are doing so many different things to bring money in, more than I've seen anyone else on that thread but is it just a mindset thing?

I see it all the time.

On here, on the green site, on Reddit, On Facebook, Twitter.. Everywhere.

People want more money, they start online earning journeys and then quit.

I've seen multiple people on Facebook who would just jump from MLM to MLM looking for the next quick fix to give them more money.

Is it just because people aren't getting as much as they want from earning money online?

Does life just get in the way perhaps?

Is the all just too hard maybe? Do people need hand-holding more with all this sort of stuff?

I suppose Blogging is a PRIME example. People start them up, don't get the results they want within a few months either traffic or income-wise and then bolt.

FBA, Ebaying, getting high paying work from Appen, doing print on demand, Setting up any kind of online business all takes time!!

The folk who are working for CRISP on here now are earning gangbuster numbers each month and you can bet they aren't the folk who saw online earning as just being surveys and then handed in the towel!

I suppose quitting 'earning online' is 1000x easier than quitting a regular 9-5 job!

I'm (very) new to this, as you know, and really came into it as I needed to cover my ass a bit for a few months as I was between work (I had my next job lined up, but had to delay starting whilst I had some meds stuff sorted). For me, I have no intention of making this a full time plan, so it will really depend on how much time I have as to whether it's worth while sticking with. I would like to think I will, as it's useful to have top-ups even when regularly earning from a more 'traditional job', but I also know how thinly I often end up spreading myself (In the past it has been normal for me to leave the house before 6am and return long after 10pm pretty much every day - not all work, but the mental and physical drain is no less!) and if that happens and I'm not desperate for the cash, it will not be a priority I guess. I imagine it depends what you are doing it for and where your priorities lie. I'm very grateful for this group in such an early stage in my home earning journey, it's invaluable for learning - but I also suspect that by being part of the community here I will be more likely to stick at it (not just through peer-motivation but I'm obsessively goal-orientated too; if i say I'll try to earn x this month to you guys, I'll probably break myself to make it happen ha!).

I have not so much quit on MB it is just that I have lost most of the major bookies. I do have a few where I still get a free bet every week, and a few where I do the occasional offers and them mug bet but it is less than £80 worth of free bets a month. There are more sites I can and will join and learn about accas but at the moment with not having the main sites I am not sure it will be worth it. I may have asked this before but is the only way to make anything on accas when there is an offer on?

Would be nice to be a robot, the amount of free money I turn down recently is criminal. Life gets in the way, emotionally and physically I just don't feel like it some days.
So much information out there about side hustles, you head gets turned by the latest way to make money. Many people are time poor and the majority of these money making ideas require patience and spare time, unfortunately that is just one hurdle. Many don't have goals or maybe they do, but don't have a strategy in place to achieve the goal, not forgetting they might not even enjoy their chosen side hustle.
I have done matched betting and casino offers for a decade because I love sports and numbers. Outside of MB I just flit between different opportunities, surveys can be steady money but it can be so boring on some sites, hence I never do them on a regular basis.
So, yeah it is easy to quit, only a few will be successful in the long run making a part time or full time income.

P.S. Can we have more success stories on people who make money in the 500-2000 per month.

Maybe try risk free, low risk and free spin offers. Sign up through cashback sites.
With the gubbed bookies, if you can still get stakes on, look up arbitrage and use them to generate a few extra pounds.

I think a lot of it comes down to wading through a load of scam/crap sites (some of which I posted lately :D) trying to find the decent ones.

My full time job is time consuming (as I also work shifts) and I have a wonderful growing family so I manage my time around them as much as possible, this makes searching for and 100% concentrating on online earning opportunities not a priority for me at this time.
I tend to do PA and IPSOS surveys as I enjoy doing surveys, I have taken a break from MB but looking forward to returning next year.

I think you are spot on when you say people spread themselves too thinly when they first get into earning online simply because its so easy to say YES to everything!

I'm sure there will be bookies you haven't even heard of. I am forever finding new ones on the 'sign up offers' pages on PA lol

I think you are right when you say people approach this stuff without a strategy.

If I decided to make a new website that, i dunno, game out holiday voucher codes or something. I would have to plan that, deal with any technical hurdles that I need to learn, plan out design and SEO and then promote it when it's done. If you don't have an order for those sort of things It's VERY easy to lose your head and just give up

In regards to people earning £500-£2000 a month, LOADS of people do on here, just browse the monthly challenge thread and see how they do it!

I agree but I think trying to earn LONG TERM by dropping affiliate links all over the internet is never going to work compared to setting up your own site and trying to catch people who have user intent for those services. If you do the former your success is going to be dependant on how popular the sites are that you are putting your links on which isn't something you can control.

Yeah i REALLY struggled towards the end of working a full-time job and doing all this as well. Somehow I found it easier at the start but then I was ONLY doing 63336/Bongo Text Q&A or Leapforce so it somehow felt more manageable.

I think it comes down to a number of things, impatience, boredom and life getting in the way.
I've been online earning since 2008 and been involved in all kinds of stuff.

One thing I have found is a lot of the stuff I've done has bored me to tears! And once I get bored I get demotivated.

In the past 18 months my personal life has been incredibly difficult and I just haven't always had the headspace or the creativity.

I'm very good at writing strategies and not sticking to them. I will try harder in 2020

I've kind of enjoyed doing social media management these past few years, but I've been guilty of not diversifying enough in my online income.

Two areas that have never bored me are blogging and creating digital printables so I hope to focus more on those next year. (I've never made a penny off my blog, but never actually tried to either!)

Phew, that was a blog post in itself!!

I think a lot of online work is quite boring. People often decide they would rather spend less or get a couple of shifts in a local pub.

I understand what you are saying but I also agree with others on this thread too, the real world does get in the way, sh8t happens as they say! Also, there are elements of online work that are outside of your control and no matter how much you try, it won't work. You mentioned Crisp and yes for those who are able to get this gig, it is great income earner BUT if people read the thread it seems anyone's guess who gets picked and who doesn't. Crisp isn't the only company that seems to operate that way. I studied the guidelines got full marks, delighted to be told I was on the waiting list and then nothing whilst others hear the next day they've been successful. I am used to it so I am ok with it most of the time but I can see why people don't do it long term, it can be very disheartening!!! Which is why I like these forums, we share and vent and we support and we just keep on doing our best

You know you make a VERY good point about the frustration that can build up when applying for online work.

The likes of Crisp / Appen etc don't make it obvious at all about who will be chosen to do the work so the odds are not on your side in a certain degree and with the lack of feedback that you get as well it can also REALLY put you off applying for other similar roles!

for me it boils down to a number of factors:
  1. working in front of a PC all day, then doing online work at evenings and weekends can be punishing.
  2. there's so many different opportunities - which ones do I do?
  3. general lack of time
However, I'm finding with blogging for instance that I've only made a small amount to cover a few year's hosting - but the skills being learnt will be useful for future websites.
Likewise with matched betting/advantage play.

Some people want jam today, whereas lots of opportunities need an investment of time and patience for future reward.

Ive been working on market surveys for around ten years now, although Ive only recently in the last two years started to use Appen and matched betting. Around the time when I found this webpage. I started with the more time consuming ones when on maternity leave. I cant see me ever stopping as I like the extra income. I don't think it will ever be my full time income through. Im working part time at the moment and it is an easy way to bump up my salary.

It is time consuming - and I know when I try to say to friends ways to earn money, they tend to join one survey website and expect lots of money from just one in a short amount of time - but I find to make money from surveys you have got to be constantly changing and looking for new sites (which is not what a lot of people want to do). One month you may make a lot of money from one site the next none - which then causes people to give up. Or they set too high a goal and if they don't meet it give up.

I don't think the work is hard per se, but I do think that all the sites you see make it look really easy to make money. Although that is sort of true, you do need to put a lot of effort into it and I think the expectation is that it is easy money instead.

I suspect that coupled with lack of time since most people are juggling it with full time work and often a family too are the key constraints. Personally my money making is all over the shop because I have so many other things to squash into life and I simply don't always have the time to spend on it.

There's a lot of uncertainty, too. Just look at Neevo - you have no idea if and when they're going to pay you, or if they are legitimately discounting submissions.

My reasoning is lack of time.
I can't always guarantee I will have time for set shifts as I do extra work around my full time job.
I tried Appen but couldn't commit to the 1 hour a week 5 days a week, as some weeks I go out straight after work and don't return until I have to go to bed.

Crisp let's me do work when I want without a minimum requirement which works for me.

I think you've missed a very large part of it - there are a good section of us who work from home because we struggle to get "normal" jobs, be that through childcare (so expensive!), disability, mental health, caring responsibilities, or we are isolated in location.

I've worked from home for the last 6 years, not by choice. I struggle to get outside most days through agoraphobia and a personality disorder - which affects 1 in 100 people - (the waiting list for treatment is about 3 years long, I've been on it since 2017), so holding down a conventional job just is not possible. I would love to earn more money, I did Appen for a long time, but the jobs got further apart, so I went back onto the good old transcription work. I take in about £500 a month, which just about covers my basics, but I really need about another £1k on top. I've started matched betting (but struggle with it, even with lots of help) but I think its the lack of longevity that turns most people off. its great earning £50 here and there but when you have bills to pay you need consistency, which is something which just does not exist in this market.

So take losing your sight, poor MH, mounting bills, an inability to get a regular job or keep said job, and throw on the stress of having to make a specific amount every month with very little in the way of how to do it other than giving it a go and hoping your credit card doesn't get declined (again) for nursery fees.

Great points about disabilities / mental health

You are also spot on about the lack of consistency. Explaining to none 'working from home / freelance' people that the money you get will be ad-hoc and can be random amounts doesn't make a very appealing prospect!

Its probably the reason most people end up stopping. I know I almost did, but then I saw my bank balance and got straight back on it! My transcription work is consistent, as I do specialised work rather than generalised, but its been my bread and butter for quite a while.
