After chatting with some of the UKMB I wanted to try an experiment on whether I could increase my google ads.

Based on this I've tried to replicate the structure I had with media(.)net to put some adverts inline.

I've also turned off any adverts on my home page.

Finally, I've added an advert at the bottom of each blog post which includes ads and links to blog posts.

I just want to see whether it improves my ad engagement or not.

:)

What advantage does taking adds off the homepage do?

I would GUESS that most people find your site (say via google searches) and hit the blog posts directly rather than the actual home page

Mainly most people visit from phone and the 'side bar' ads are right at the bottom. Its just to 'improve' the home page rather than anything else.

I'm not convinced, but what do I know lol

As long as your google pagespeed isn't a sack of shit it shouldn't matter where the ads sit ;)

imo ads should ALWAYS be 'in-line'. Sidebar ads for blogs are just there for show I don't think they half the clicks people think lol

I used to have the media(.)net ones inline and they earnt me the squareroot of fuck all. Trying some adsense there instead and want to see if they make any difference.

My current CPC/RPM are shockingly low compared to other peoples so doing an experiment for a week or two isn't going to really affect anything if it all goes wrong.

Side bar was always for my desktop users (or tablet users). And seeing as they were getting some interaction they haven't done me any harm.

Your readers aren't clicking

why is this

are you encouraging them to? Is your content engaging or just 'issue of the week' type stuff?

They weren't clicking. I removed them. I've written more content and I'm trying again.

I don't have readers. I have 'friends'. And they hate me.

Write not for friends but for Google searches. We aren't writing personal blogs here, we are trying to make money!!

They then hit your page

they already want to find out 'n click

you will have far more success

are you using a keyword tool yet?

My adsense is just there - its not really for anyone.

Not done the keyword thing yet. Currently just trying to increase my content. Mediavine is still my plan so I need more 'general' content to creep up and slowly this is happening.

I get that BUT

Writing lots of content that no one is searching for is not going to bring you any extra traffic

writing content that people ARE searching for will....

I tell you one other way to go if you are wanting to do inline adverts and that is using skimlinks / skimwords

HELLO MEDIAVINE!

I'm trying to write content. Its getting there. I will be re-applying to Mediavine this summer. They will take me on. I'm on 40k sessions for the last 30 days and thats without any juicey TCB treasure hunts. I'm hoping I get to 60k sessions a month by the summer and I want 40% of that to be my general content.

Then I'll start selling an eBook on creating a blog and then I'll do an eSeminar on joining mediavine and finally I'll travel the world on how to set up a hashtag for Jon. People will pay me millions for this information.

Once I'm on a RaggaTip with Mediavine on the Reverend, I will go all out cray-cray on the 2nd blog I am creating. But I've made the decision I need to get on MV first before I build that one up.

They haven't promised but based on what they've told me, I think I'm in with a good shot.

Day 1 of new advert locations has seen a 10 fold increase in ad performance.

It was the first of the month so I did see a slightly higher number of page views but so far, this is looking good.

Yesterday saw a 20 x increase on from before I made the changes.

Today hasn’t happened so quickly but I hope I’ll be at least 10x before the day is over.

Is this an increase in income or just clicks?
