Hi Everyone,

I just thought, I'd take a moment or two to introduce myself.

I've been in teaching for over twenty years. the kids these days are just completely unruly and parents expect miracles when they're unable to handle them. God forbid, should you say anything to their child, they will match down faster than you could chewy a fruit pastille. At one time I used to thrive off it but as you age the pressure gets to you. I walked out of a well paid job however, if it compromises your health then it's time to hang up the gloves.

I attempted to break into industry as my background is fundamentally IT, as well as it being the subject I taught but sadly without avail. I did get the impression, industry don't like teachers in addition to that I was fast approaching "50" and although they'd never admit to your face, why have a haggered and battered 50 year old, when you can have some in their early twenties, probably twice as quick on their feet.

Evidently, I was unable to penetrate into industry and have been doing odd jobs, nothing of any great significance, even attempted taxi driving, good money, if your willing to put the hours in but horrendous job if you have a bad back. Under the current environment even that line of work has completely been strained.

For the past two to three months, I've tried numerous ways to make of a go of it online, from completing surveys, testing websites, clickworker, gamestester, etc etc, most of which suggest you will earn in the region of at least $10ph, biggest load of codswallop, that is indeed if they decide to pay you as some of them have specific "guidelines" that you need to adhere too, in my view if they can get away without paying you they will.

So, here I am attempting to generate further ideas from The Money Shed and you people whom I hope will perhaps point me in the right direction. I fully appreciate that everyone has a story to tell and we are all stuck in a similar situation, not much out there and people are trying to survive due to inflated prices from shopkeepers have absolutely morals.

It was just supposed to be a short note just to say HI and introduce myself, some how I manage to waffle on, my apologise for that. Yes, so here I am looking to find some ideas in the event that it will hopefully generate into something more fruitful, here's hoping.

Thank you for those that took the time to have a read and any suggestions would greatly be appreciated :)

Hiya!

First off, sorry to hear about your teaching journey. The reasons you listed are the exact same ones my parents did when they left teaching and retired, you couldn't even say boo to the kids without the parents coming in and having a slanging match anymore!

Just so we can help you better, do you have a ball park figure for how much you are looking to earn each month?

Due to the current situation, you should find this blog post useful as it brings in around £2000+ of income even WITH our current coronavirus situation

Realistically, I don't wish to aim too high initially however, something in the region of 1k would certainly be a good appetiser to at least get me off the ground, with 2.4 kinds at home, they're always hungry, more like a bottomless pit :D

I'll certainly have a good nose around and see where it leads, one thing I'm not afraid of is hard graft.

Cheers

Welcome to the Shed. @northwest01

When sport starts up again matched betting could be a way to pull in a few extra hundred a month.

Know where you're coming from regarding teaching. But have you thought about private tuition? Best would be face to face when things get back to normal but you could consider online now. I keep getting emails from this company, I haven't investigated it at all myself but could be worth a look. https://tutorextra.co.uk/page/private-tutor-jobs/61

There are a few sites around where you can sell educational resources you have made, TES being one of them. Again, never done it myself but may be worth considering.

Good luck

Hi Homie,

Many thanks for the shout out and information.

I was involved in matched betting until you quite rightly indicated that the sports had dried due to on-going concerns.

As desperation seeded, I was frantically looking around to replace the steady income stream then I came across Team Profit who provide resources for match betting, they have branched out into Team Casino. Oh, Oh, Oh dear, I thought why not, can it really be that difficult. famous last words my friend, it started off really well and you work against this marker known as the EV oh boy, then things took a downward turn drastically. To gamble you need to be incredibly disciplined and not let desperation cloud your judgement indeed, I did the deed. I was like a man possessed, I was incurring losses after losses and although it states clearly do NOT chase your losses unfortunately, I did. When I say I lost vast amounts of money, I mean we're talking 1000K's here, what a disaster and this was only a matter of days ago. I soon bailed out of it and closed down a number of bookmaker accounts to stop myself falling deeper and deeper. So, here I am now attempting to slowly feedback the money that I am in-debt too, as I've mentioned gambling is a very, very slippery slope and not for someone who will make rash decisions not necessarily out of greed but on the contrary desperation by, now I'm more desperate than ever. You know I'm in my 50's now and still make pitiful and painful mistakes as we all know experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.

In addition to the above sadly my health started to deteriorate back end of last year and it really has been one blow after another but, generally I'm an optimistic person and although we have our ups and downs, you know, I'm living, breathing and still here to fight another day.

I'm very much cautious now and hope to tread carefully the future is uncertain but, small steps now and slowly but surely I will overcome the dip that I'm currently riding on.

I would just like to thank you again for reaching out, it's very much appreciated and wish you well, take care and stay safe. Cheers

Teaching is a harder and harder career to do these days, so do feel for you but I am with you in you need to do something that does not impact your health and hopefully you enjoy.

Tutoring that has been mentioned would be a great way and in this current situation, it might be easier to do virtually, perhaps there are some courses you can create to teach those younger IT wannabes that you mention are looking to nab all the jobs. Think there are various websites that you can add courses to, some other members may know about these.

Your Match betting experience I can relate to and have done the same and every now and then do have a blip, but I am still making good money from match betting especially when I don't put much time in. The key is to see it as work and right now I have a daily routine that includes certain sites to look at and times during the day, make it very structured. Do the bet/offer and move on. If you can see it as that and not a big earner but small bits that add up then it can be easy to handle.

Mystery shopping is where I focused on and this has stopped but there are small jobs popping back up that can be done at home, I think there will be more as the industry adapts, so might be worth looking at this area to be ready.

This site has lots of great ways to look at and the link Jon has put will show you a lot of the areas. A good way to find out what works is to look at the monthly challenges and see what sites/areas people are making money from and ask them, everyone is so nice and helpful on here and happy to share advice and experience.

There is a lot of delivery work available at the moment I have noticed which is a great way to adapt to the current work climate.

Good luck with everything.
