The landscape after this is all over will be somewhat different. Companies and also the government will be looking of ways to raise revenue. Higher taxes and increase vat on items look like real possibilities, as well as charging more for services. As for jobs, there will certainly be higher unemployment and companies will only hire minimal staff i believe. More companies will offer work with an online basis if its seen as a way to cut costs and future proof their businesses.

What i do wonder though is will they whole situation have any bearing on regulations for the self employed/ contractors (Will we see a way of introducing sick pay, holiday pay, pensions ,etc, etc??)

it seems like the 'sign up offers' for banks are dying a death and part of me wonders how long the lucrative referral schemes for the likes of bulb or octopus energy and co will stick around

Think face masks becoming available on print on demand websites would be a good idea. Cotton face masks will be a requirement by everyone by end of year. Design would encourage uptake well before that

was reading an interesting article tonight about the change in small businesses / sole traders renting offices

basically, if you are just paying £1000 a month to rent an office for your small business just so so you can keep an eye on your 3 members of staff then it's a waste of money

When social distancing is lifted there will be a huge demand for mobile hairdressers, gardeners, odd jobs men. If we can't import foreign fruit pickers we will need a lot of pick your own. I think the gig economy will be huge. Also we won't be able to rely on Chinese plastic wonders so any one with a three D printer will do well.
I can see sites like prolific having a lot of work when the universities reopen as there will be a huge appetite for research.
I can't see secondary schools opening before September. Also no foreign travel until at least September and then possibly only for work or family emergencies.

I hope so. My husband is a sole trader and has his own Handyman business. He reckons he may be fixing a lot of mistakes!

I'm surprised there wasn't a bigger piece on the news about the oil price. It fell to below zero yesterday. The first time in history that has happened. Could have big implications for countries that earn a lot of their income from oil, like the middle east, russia and america.

It's now come back up a bit. I bought a little bit because surely it has to go back up some more after the virus is done with, even if it never returns to $50 or $60 a barrel.

Weird that it hasn't spooked the financial markets at all. This could be a pretty big deal for the economy.

Affiliate marketing seems to be changing by the day.

I'm constantly getting emails about reduced rates which isn't a good thing.

Fun Fact.
I've spent the last 10 months working on a site which was which was aimed at people who have got money and want to buy more luxurious items like spa weekends, helicopter rides, driving a race car etc.
People would come to the site which was like a marketplace and then click through to said activity, I would get a kickback and they would go on to buy the thing.

It worked by me taking a product feed through Awin for the likes of ActivityWarehouse, Groupon, LivingSocial, Wowcher etc. which would be imported into the website and create the marketplace so each item had descriptions, photos, reviews etc.

Over the last 4 weeks ALL these activities have stopped as no one is spending (or would want to!) on these sort of things and now I get emails from LivingSocial about promoting Facemasks!!

that was due to the traders dumping their sales as otherwise they were all due a large shipment of oil to their offices or homes :),

With the HUGE impact these weeks (not even months yet!) is having on both us as individuals and businesses it got me wondering what the 'earning from home' world will look like when things return to normal in a few months.

Traditional Mystery Shopping - Part of me wonders if this will now die a death, it was hanging on as it was and there are going to be a lot of businesses in trouble who just won't have the money to spend on MSing checks and audits.

Smartphone Task Apps - I would say these companies need to pivot to offering some kind of medical information to new clients that is useful in this brave new world as if they don't I again can't see Gillette or Redbull wanting to spend money (or even massively caring) on how their displays look in-store. Maybe the apps will change to being more survey based as Field Agent became due to its lack of work

Rating Work - I can't see this changing. More people than ever are using search engines or social media so I don't see Web Search Evaluator work or Social Media Rating work going anywhere at all.

Matched Betting - This will carry on as normal once sports comes back and I would expect some MAJOR offers from the bookies to get punters back so we might have a bit of a 'Cheltenham Wave' to ride during those returning weeks. I do wonder though if the football is done for the year and we just start again in September so we could be in for a few more months of casino offers and south African horse racing!

Blogging - Marketing budgets have died a total death! The only way to make money at the moment is through affiliate links and companies hunting for backlinks. There is literally naff all in terms of paid sponsored work! Even if you had a blog that was exclusively catering to homeschooling or Coronavirus or something when companies approach you I doubt they would want to spend half the budget they did a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, when people return to work a few months further down the line they will want to spend money on marketing to get their names back out there so now is a good time to focus on the SEO of your site if you run one.

Surveys - These have already proven to be more popular than ever and I see no reason why wouldn't continue.

ebay / reselling - I’m not so sure about. I don’t think people are going to be as keen to go into charity shops or car boot sales to buy stock which they then want to flip for a profit.

Online Focus Groups - I think these will EXPLODE. If this epidemic has taught us anything it's that people are far more willing to do video conferencing than ever before so companies will want to tap into that I think.

I also sadly think there will be an uptick into online scams and other 'get rich quick' schemes. I've had a look around the usual MLM companies and all their reps tend to be on 'countdowns to nothing' which promise a BIG ANNOUCNEMENT THEY WON'T WANT TO MISS which is absolutely nothing and just a way of keeping their team engaged and not leaving them..

Anyone else got any thoughts?

One Pulse have just upped their minimum payout threshold to £20 and ZipZero have halved their receipt scan by half. Although it was only a penny to begin with. I suppose it will be a case of chasing and saving finances wherever you can be it a business or individual.

Why are we not seeing LOADS of customer service jobs available for people to do from home?
are they being listed somewhere I don’t know about?!?!

Interesting question, but which sectors would be recruiting for those roles right now on a home working basis. Wouldn't they already have existing staff working from home? But I'd like to know too, as I really don't wanna go back to office working when the time comes.

A lot of large companies are unwilling to recruit at the moment as onboarding people is a problem when everyone is working from home. IT staff are under a lot of pressure too to handle technical queries from existing staff so it adds up to the challenge when it comes to onboarding people.

In terms of a change to working from home permanently as opposed to going to the office, no sane large corporation would go into that route - it might save them some rent but will creep up other costs. It has an impact on personal development and efficiency and it will definitely have legal implications in some places too. It might create more flexibility in the future as to where people could be based or could work from home once a week but I'm not sure about a major shift.

Agencies may have them. When I finished in the school I heard about NHS 111 looking for staff and although I did not take it further, I think it was going to be through the agency.

Agencies may be filling the positions. I think NHS 111 went down that route.

Bit of a quote today on BBC News that I think is relevant to those of us that used to earn a HUGE amount of money taking photos of billboards for the likes of BeMyEye and Field Agent

The first rule of advertising is that your adverts have to be seen to have any effect.

This is why if you have managed to get out of the house recently in the UK you might have noticed that there are an awful lot of adverts supporting the National Health Service, and key workers on billboards and bus stops.

As Anja Lambrecht, professor of marketing at the London Business School, explains, it is one of the signs that the advertising industry is struggling.

"It is most obvious outdoors with billboards - no-one is driving past them, so no commercial firms are advertising," she says. "That is why they all have adverts for the NHS."

Hope all the billboard companies don't go bust OR maybe they will now decide to get rid of the old fashioned 'poster in a box' system and move to them all being digital displays which they can control more easily

From next week ALL shops will be open, at least that's my understanding of it so just been around a few of the popular mysery shopping websites like Market Force and apart from blabbing on about RELAUCHING FOR 2020 type stuff I'm not seeing any work available

At least the app work (roamler, BeMyEye, Field Agent) stuff has come back already so I Was totally wrong about the bottom falling out in that market!
