It just kinks to the shop, sure there should be a series of letters and numbers .
Thinking about giving this a go but been wondering a few things.
I’ve found some identical items off Etsy on Chinese marketplaces. But the Etsy ones claim to be full 925 sterling silver while the Chinese sites say it is just silver plated. These are the exact same items though and they are quite niche so I’m doubting there just happens to be loads of silver plated ones from China but Etsy sellers have solid silver ones which I can’t find a supplier of. Are lots of Etsy jewelry just mislabeled and lying then? I’m wondering if I’ll be able to make many sales if I’m truthful of the materials while other stores are lying about it being higher quality.
And also in regards to shipping, is it best to use the more expensive signed for or is normal 1/2nd class post fine? I’d just be wary of people claiming they haven’t received the item if it isn’t tracked.
Well, this is naughty of them. If the China supplier says that is it silver plated then it definitely wouldn't be 925 sterling silver. I think the Etsy sellers are being very liberal with the truth even if they do swap out the chain or something.Thinking about giving this a go but been wondering a few things.

Thanks for the help. Yes, that is the type of thing I was referring to. Etsy seller says it is sterling silver but it’s just a £1 necklace from AliExpress which says it isn’t sterling silver. And they have 7,500 sales with great ratings so I wasn’t sure if I was missing something.Well they won't be sterling silver if they have come from China. They tend to stamp 925 on everything silver coloured, but its not. Its probably not even silver plate. Just nickle or something.
Buying cheap tat from China then repackaging it and selling it for x10 the price with a trumpted up description is pretty much the Etsy business model.
I guess this is the sort of thing you mean. They might have swapped out the chain for a cheap 925 one, or they might be out and out lying:
UK Etsy https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/694...=sr_gallery-1-19&organic_search_click=1&frs=1
China https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...earchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_
Also, the quality from China can be really hit and miss. Mostly miss.
Oh - and for shipping, under £10 I use normal 2nd class, over £10 I send it tracked.
About to open an Etsy store and wondered if anyone had any tips or good advice for us.
We have started a new business - basically as we have no income coming in and sitting around crying into our tea just wasn't healthy.
We make personalised framed paper cuts and cards (yes I am aware lots do this too) and have set up our facebook page but want to go beyond this and reach others than just local people. We have done really well with local orders and have a few commissions under our belt but we now have the packaging to be able to send through the post. To enable us to survive through March we need to get some more orders so gambling with Etsy (I think)seems to be the way to go.
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Don’t worry about lots of other people doing the same thing. If your stuff is good it will sell.
I’m still figuring it out but Etsy depends a lot on key words. The key words that you put in your listing title, tags and description need to be what people would search for to find you.
I paid $1 per day when I first started to advertise on there, but it’s up to you.
I also got people I know to buy my items a couple of times, it helps to bump you up the search results.
Good luck
I’ve seen people saying the fees are really high, but I disagree. If I sell a picture for £11, they take about £1.I think it's good but I am a bit bias! Good advice, will focus on keywords. I haven't really investigated costs associated with etsy so lots to research.
Thanks.
