Well there are loads of people doing everything that’s not a reason not to do it though!

It is when I've got no time :p Can't afford to be making designs that are just going to sit there with 1 million other people's designs.

Is anyone on here actually making anything decent from Redbubble? I suppose I could put some of my Etsy stuff on there. Do they charge you to list items?

Yeah I’d like to know the answer to these too. And also why can’t I buy anything? Just goes to an error page when I say checkout on TeePublic.

It’s got me thinking about buying a t-shirt printing machine to be honest and selling the designs myself. I’m trying to find a good machine and I don’t really know how they work, like would I have to keep buying ink or not?

I've just started looking at this myself.

Yesterday I came across this guy Greg Gottfried's videos on YouTube and it got me interested so I am in the process of researching what I need to do. He gives you all the steps. Recommends using social media to drum up traffic to your pages, it's key to selling products from your page. Another Youtuber with good advice is Sarah Chrisp/Wholesale Ted who has a club you can join if you want to shell out some money.

Are you folk all making ridiculous money then off facemask designs??!? You effectively have millions of people to sell them to now!

Don't I just made 45 facemasks - my friends mum made about £5,000 making and selling them (but she's a professional seamstress and that's her full time job) I swore I'd never make anymore - these i made to give away for free :-/ if you're handy with a sewing machine i've seen people selling them for £5 each.

To be honest if you're using new fabric (as a non-commercial buyer) £5 wouldn't give you much profit.

However, this did make me realise...there is *something* related to masks that no-one sells in my local area #watchmydiary because I don't want to clog this thread up on non thread stuff.

On a side note I've started designing some basic text t-shirts.

How's everyone getting on with POD recently?

Also, does anyone use the Wordswag App to create designs? I was wondering if it's OK to sell designs created on there.

Is it OK to use a Pixabay image as part of a design to sell on a POD platform.

So i got tiered up to Tier 2000 on Amazon Merch at the beginning of the month. Amazon have introduced phone cases and expanded their print on demand markets to include Italy, Spain and France. I have 1000 slots to fill so I'll give phone cases a try, I think.

If anyone was thinking of trying print on demand now is the best time to start. Get as many designs up as possible in the run-up to the Christmas season.

@snowwhyte, do you use any other POD platforms? And what do you use to create your designs?

I use Redbubble and Teepublic as well as Merch but I don't make much with them and i'll need to add more designs to my accounts before Q4. I make Merch my priority but when I fill my slots I'll work on the other platforms.
I was using Photoshop and Illustrator for designing but it's expensive and quite glitchy so now I'm mainly using Affinity designer. I'm not as proficient with the design software as I would like so that's something else I want to work on. Q4 is only a few months away so the pressure is on to get as much done as possible before then.

@snowwhyte, sounds like you're doing well. Just a few questions slanted towards Redbubble and Teepublic:
1). Is it worth designing in the largest size possible first so that it fits all types of product? And do you design from scratch or use public domain images?
2). What are the best products to start with? Stickers? device cases? (I'm guessing that t-shirts is a saturated market). And does your preferred product type vary between each niche?
3). Is it essential to use a paid design package (i.e. Affinity Designer)? or could you just as easily create a similar design on Canva, PowerPoint, etc?

I wouldn't say I'm doing that well with print on demand. I've only made about £1000 in the year I've been doing it but there is definitely the potential to make a lot more. I still have a lot to learn.

1) for Redbubble I use the largest size I can but it depends on the design. I do pattern type designs that are specifically for things like duvets, shower curtains and cushions. I do those in the big sizes but things like a text based t-shirt I will only do in the t-shirt size.
Some of my designs I make from scratch, some I purchase from graphics sites and modify slightly. When I first started I did use public domain images but lots of people are using them and they won't necessarily sell well. They're best used as a small part of a larger design.
2) try creating lots of different things to see what best suits you and what sells. On Amazon I gravitated towards the pop sockets, on Redbubble i prefer the homewares products. I haven't given up on t-shirts but they aren't my focus. They do work well for some people though.
3) You don't need paid software. Lots of people love Canva. There's an online photoshop clone called Photopea. If you have an Ipad you can try procreate. There are lots of options. Just find one that you feel comfortable with and them look up tutorials on Youtube to figure out how to use it.

@snowwhyte, £1000 is great.
I'll check out Photopea. Not got an ipad, but if anyone can recommend Android/Windows desktop apps or resources.

I did A-leven art and design about 20 years ago lol, so I know about colours and composition.

I might look into uploading some manual drawings.

Hi guys,

I am looking to get started with Amazon Merch.

I am not a designer, I currently have zero shirt designs knocking about and am starting very much as a blank canvas. My question is, where do I start?

- Do I make 10 designs and sign up to Merch?
- Do I post some designs elsewhere first?
- Do I use my regular Amazon account for signup or do I make a new account email?

Thank you for your help!

@Tsonga87 You have to apply to Merch using your regular Amazon account. They'll ask for your bank and tax details and a statement on why you want to join Merch, any experience you have etc. There are lots of videos on YouTube about applying for Merch but acceptance to the program is seemingly very random. For me, I had a long-standing Amazon account, told them I had a brand and a niche that I wanted to focus on and explained that I would take copywriter and trademark issues seriously. Some people just apply with no experience and get in. Others are experienced designers with brands and don't get accepted. The only way to know is to apply.

If you do get in you get 10 slots to put up designs. One slot equals one t-shirt, pop socket or phone case. If you want to put up a sweatshirt with the same design as your first t-shirt that takes up another slot. They don't sell as well so it's recommended to stick with t-shirts in Tier 10. You can only upload one design per day in tier 10. It will be manually reviewed by their team for copywrite, trademark issues so read the guideline thoroughly before submitting your first designs.

Some people do prefer to start on other platforms because they aren't as strict as Amazon. With Amazon you get one account and if you get too many rejections and get your account closed you normally won't get a second chance. Since Q4 is so close though I would just say apply and be careful with trademarks because the Christmas season will be your best chance to speed through the early tiers.

What fonts do people use for POD designs? Is it OK to use Canva free fonts? They have some nice looking display fonts.

I've downloaded some really good free fonts from Dafont which I've used on Refbubble (my sales volume using these fonts has now exceeded three quid

Any Redbubble designers use Canva and GIMP to make a transparent PNG file?

So, I'm cresting a Canva design with a black background and white/green fonts.
When I upload to GIMP to make the image transparent - it seems to save my black background as a white background instead.
Any work around for this?

Also, does anyone know how to use fuzzy select in GIMP for a distressed/textured font design?
