Came across this article. It got me thinking if I can make enough money from dabbling into investments to leave my 9-5? I wanted to know the proof of concept and if anyone has managed to do this?

I know of people who have done that but they have both come from a finance/banking background and had jobs that made huge bonuses. Both knew finance really well and kept links up in their industries so were basically just doing what they did for work for themselves.

There are also FIRE people but that's not quite the same thing as that involves saving and being frugal and putting as much as possible into passive trackers. I loosely follow this to try and produce a side income stream.

Do you mean spread betting/forex trading? I am a bit suspect of that but don't know enough to say either way.

Warren Buffett says yes you can.

But most people aren't warren buffett.

Read lots, research lots, understand how the stock market, commodity markets and the whole financial system works, even bitcoin. Then only invest what you can afford to lose.

I think it is a good side income but the art is to make it your main income, as mentioned here Warren Buffet!

I do like the concept of investing in cleaner companies.

Over a long period of time, with a lot of knowledge and a good dash of luck. Yes, it's possible. But for most people it will be just one of multiple streams of income.

Good luck with it and keep us updated on how you get on. I try to keep most of my money in ethical investments.

I just can't for the life of me see how investing can make say £1500/£2000 a month for you to live off

Yep if you have a large enough amount invested then you could get a decent amount of dividends then after a certain point you can draw it down if necessary

What funds you currently invested in? I am on the waiting list for Clim8 Invest - they claim the be cleaner than the current market....
FP WHEB Sustainability Fund, which is ranked most ethical fund by ethical consumer magazine but I also invest in L&G ethical tracker.

I have funds in non-ethical trackers too so I am diversified.

Depending on your time scales and attitude to risk you could also consider bonds. Plus precious metals and crypto of course. Some crypto companies pay very good interest when you stake coins for a fixed length of time. worth considering in the current climate of zero interest rates.

The mega-rich are a different kettle of fish, many set up family trusts that span generations over hundreds of years. It's a poisoned chalice for some though as if they don't tow the family line, they get cut off.

Thanks for sharing @Sherliarty Interesting magazine. How clean and or sustainable would you say the funds are? The problem is there is a lot of greenwashing going on; Interesting podcast that talks in-depth about this issue -
