I've been thinking of starting a money blog for about the last 6 months, but I'm finding myself going round in circles just choosing a host for the blog. Of course I know the recommendations on Moneyshed are Host Presto and Guru Hosting, but I 've been reading reviews on loads of others and getting totally confused. For instance loads of review sites claim that Blue Host and Siteground are the best, but then I see some horrific reviews on Trustpilot and elsewhere. Then I see great reviews on Trustpilot for Krystal, but another site slated Krystal as a host that used to be good, but is now rubbish. That site was saying Hostinger is amazing. I would be grateful if any of you experienced bloggers could help me decide and give feedback on your experience with any of these.

Bluehost is only ever recommended by bloggers because of its large referral kickback

Hosting is very much a “you get what you pay for” these days so if you want a U.K. company and good customer support when you have to be prepared to pay a little extra

Yes, I guess that applies to most things in life.☺ I can understand that we all want to make money, but can't see myself recommending a host based on getting the best affiliate income. I would only recommend something I believe in.

Do you have an idea of how much you want to spend each month / year?

guru for Example offers a range of options https://blog.themoneyshed.co.uk/guru-hosting-review/

or if you want to go super cheap you could go with tsohost who from memory @rninja is with for their sites and they are part of the godaddy collection of hosting companies

Well I don't imagine making any money at all from it for at least six months, but it would be nice if at the end of say a year I had made enough to cover the cost of hosting for that year. Does that sound reasonable, or am I expecting too much? I would probably want to pay between £40 and £100. Is it possible to get good service for that? I see the deal you had with Host Presto was £33, but that link wasn't working for me. Guru was a bit more at £5-10 a month, and I was a deal at Krystal that worked out at £5 a month. Some are a bit misleading, as they show a low price, but that is for a 3 year contract.

Don’t forget you would claim all hosting costs as an expense in your tax return

Earning money from blogging is UNLIMITED - from paid sponsored posts or affiliate marketing there is thousands to be made each month once you hit a high enough level with it all

build a site, create content, promote the content and cultivate an engaged audience and the money will come!!!

I work full time, but I am 58 on Friday and plan to retire at 60, so I could probably blog only once a week or slightly less. Would that be enough for now?

It’s less about creating content and more about driving traffic to it via seo / social media / email newsletters / guest posting on other blogs to build backlinks etc

Yes, I understand the marketing side of it. I actually have an MBA despite working in science all my life. I've already had a few ideas for the name of the blog, but discovered that one of them was already in use by another blogger. Another one I was keen on the co.uk is available, but .com not available. Does that matter much? Also I read somewhere you should check that the social media names are available, and fit in with allowed formats. The FB name is taken, though it isn't related to what I would blog about. I do have some other possibles, but not sure they fit what I want.

@Bugboybill, I've used Tsohost and they've been OK. I'd say to go for basic hosting when starting out. No point spending too much until you've got visitors.
You also want a minimalist WordPress theme such as Astra, Generate Press, Neve, or similar, which will keep your site quick to load even on shared hosting.

Another question: Do you need the email service? Guru looks pretty good, but adding the email doubles the price. Whereas, the Host Presto deal and some others includes email services.

do you plan to use an email on the domain or just to use a gmail account for everything?

So hosting with guru is £4.99 and then email is £9.99 so £14.98 a month all in so around 49p a day to how your website and run the email system.

I honestly can't praise the support from guru enough when I've needed to use it. NOTHING has been too much trouble for them however if you want email included at a lesser price than hostpresto or one of the other ones that offer it may be the way to go

Oh, I thought it was £9.99 including email, not an extra £9.99. Basically the email option is about eventually having an email list to send a heads-up when there's a new blog post or special offer. Of course that's contingent on generating interest in the first place lol. Does it make a big difference having a hosted email service? I suppose I could either start at somewhere like Host presto and see how it goes with the option of moving later if not happy, or I could start at Guru and add the email service later if necessary? As it is I can't even settle on a name yet. I have tried loads, but so far only 6 are available as .com and .co.uk without somebody else having the name on social media.

Oh, that sounds a lot better. When it comes to domain names is it better to go for something that describes what the site is all about, or can you use something a bit off the wall? My initial idea for a name was fundyourlifestyle, because my site is going to be about how to make money to achieve goals at different times in your life, but only the .co.uk was available. Then I went through a load of other names like Beemoneysavvy (taken) and ended up with Moneyforhoney, until I realised it was a bit too close to Money For Honeys and sounded like it was about prostitution!:D

Other ideas include fairly boring ones like workthemoney, workyourcash, workyourfunds, billsmoneyportal, billsmoneyhub, billsmoneyclub.

Slightly off the wall ones related to saving money for pets were Moneyforbunny, themoneyforbunny, the bunnymoney, bunnyfunds. Another one I think sounds reasonable is Moneybeavers. Lots of other ones popping in and out of my head lol.

I would say don't worry about it too much. You can build a brand out of any name if you market it right. I mean what the hell is a money shed? or a content conga? the terms / names make no sense so it's just about building an audience around that.

Make sure you have a look at Totally Blogging btw, lots of helpful advice on there

Just to say I am with host presto and I am very pleased with their customer service. If I have a problem they sort it out straight away.
