I hope it happens, but we need to remember that this doesn't mean a vaccine will be available before Christmas. This is just a case of getting ready to start if there is. Fingers crossed.

This second lockdown is a farce. Daughter and I got Government letters yesterday, saying that we don't need to shield this time, but we have to be strict on social distancing, hygiene, stay at home as much as we can to stay safe etc. Husband is a teacher, so he is still working. So how do we protect ourselves then? Apart from closing shops and hospitality and not visiting family, everything is just continuing as normal and I can't see that it will make any appreciable difference to Covid numbers.

I wasn't sure if I should comment on this thread but do you all believe this is all just a world wide virus that requires a vaccine?

Note, vaccines take about 10 years to develop. They have produced a vaccine in 5 years and this is not guaranteed to cure this virus.
my understanding is that the coronavirus vaccine is just an extension of the SARS one

You think it's a conspiracy? Really?

Do the maths. On 68 million people. On the stats for heart attacks, strokes, road accidents, and anyone else needing an intensive care bed in any given week of the year in the UK. Add in the Covid figures, and that's why we're in lockdown again.

Numbers don't lie. I love numbers. They're pretty much the only thing to hang onto at the moment. They're not always pretty but they will never let you down in terms of telling the truth.

I did not mention conspiracy. I will remove my post. I am not going to argue over this situation we are all in.

See I actually think you make a good point about the things the media are showing during this pandemic

Like for me yesterday the big news was about the vaccines coming to doctors in December yet it was barely covered on BBC / Sky news

The mainstream media pump out a lot of fear everyday. Now they have to be careful about very sensitive things like this vaccine and when it will be available. Vaccines take years to produce and test. No matter how much they try to rush it, it wont be available this year.

Look at the news today, some ministers are looking into if Vitamin D does help in the fight against it. They are careful not to say 'go out and buy all the vitamin D you can, this will stop you getting infected'. Just like they are not saying 'the vaccine will be here in December and it will cure everyone'.

We live with flu and other viruses and diseases. Some people have a flu shot every year, some don't.
Coronovirus is not new, it has been around for years. Sweden are living with it, living quite normal lives and their death toll is not higher than every other country at the moment.
Why are some scientists, doctors and a few odd politicians saying this lockdown was not needed.

I wish the media would calm down with their fearful broadcasts. I listen to 2 minutes and turn off. No TV or radio for me. I will research my own things on the internet in my own time.

The Office for Statistics Regulation has got involved in the row about the way the government is presenting coronavirus data.
At the weekend, when the government announced England’s second lockdown it presented modelling suggesting the UK could soon see 4,000 deaths a day.
The problem was that the model was out of date. It gave the impression that the number of deaths was four times higher than it currently was.

Now the OSR has called for greater transparency, including being clear about what assumptions are being made and providing full access to the data being presented.
But this is not the only chart that looks like it is making the picture worse than it is.
Another one also used on Saturday - and again by NHS England on Wednesday - suggests we are weeks away from hospital capacity being breached.

This chart is also out of date with the modelling turning out to have overestimated the numbers in hospital by early November.
Does this matter? It may just mean capacity is breached slightly later than suggested.
But it does mean there is more wriggle room in the system than suggested. When the public is being asked to make such huge sacrifices, questions are quite rightly being asked.

Yeah there are a couple doctors and scientists who were on radio and tv shows talking about this. One was on This morning with Philip and Holly, he said the number of deaths is going down and he doesn't believe this lockdown was necessary. Even the WHO don't fully support the lockdowns as a solution.

Why are people in Sweden being treated like adults and with a little more respect than in the UK and USA.

I wholeheartedly agree. The propaganda and spin from the mainstream media has been way over the top through the whole sage. There is more to this than just a virus and people should question the narrative we are spun from the govt and media. Read up on the 'Great reset' and agenda 21. Coronavirus fits in with this agenda very nicely.

This. The media are a business, even the BBC is being made to connect its right to funding with viewer numbers hence the need to create sensationalists headlines. I met someone who worked in the newspaper industry, she said half the journalists don't believe half the stuff they write, they just have to fit into the ethos of the newspaper to sell papers. We the public in my view are as much to blame as the media. We all take a stance, ignore the evidence, shout as loud as you can, never admit to being wrong. It's not a very grown-up way of creating a society.

I've just had an invite to do the ONS testing. Yeah, why not :)
They used to come to our house EVERY Thursday in August trying to find someone else who clearly has signed up to do it lol

This Liverpool testing seems to be going down very well. Huge queues for it by the looks of it today
