Hello,

(Not sure if this should go in the resell section or not.)

I'd like to sell my personal domain. I've had it for ages (over 15 years). It's a one-word, five-letter, .co.uk domain.

In your experience/opinion, where's the best place to sell it, please?

Flippa, Godaddy Auctions, Sedo will all let you run an auction for someone to buy the domain off you

Had a little spell a few years back of buying and selling domains. Flippa was always good but given you a have a short one, Brand Bucket might be worth a look too.

Are you able to share what the name is? We might be able to give some specific advice depending upon the 'quality' of the name.

If you'd like a hassle-free way of selling then DomainLore is a good place to sell. However, it's mainly frequented by domain name investors and drop catchers, so you might not get the best price for it. Having said that a short dictionary word would probably do quite well there, as it may be quite 'investable'.

If the name is of a high quality - either because it's very brandable (e.g. sofas.co.uk), or has a good backlink profile, then you might be better approaching end buyers either directly or via a broker.

If you're willing to bide your time then point it to a simple one-page 'This domain name is for sale' site, and stick it on some of the big aftermarkets (GoDaddy, Sedo etc). You might wait months or years before you get an offer, but buyers via this route are usually highly engaged and willing to spend a bit more.

Thanks for all the advice, David Says. I appreciate it.

I don't feel to share the name, but I can send it to you if you like.

i swear the money isn't in this like it used to be

i see a lot of brands advertising on TV and saying 'google cheap cars' or 'fly direct today' and are going after keywords with their site rather than the URL

Yeah, and those which do promote domain names tend to have 'made up' names, like Cazoo. Browsers fully integrating search into their address bars hastened the change.

There's still some value in top-tier names (cars.co.uk and stuff like that) but that's more a game for serious investors. Drop catching is very competitive and you need serious investment in servers and software to compete.
