Sorry to hear about your friend. I went to a funeral yesterday - nothing to do with Covid - and the number of people out and about around shops and not wearing masks was ridiculous.

On a happier note, dad has got an appointment for his first vaccine injection on Thursday :)
Thank you. And yes, it's staggering how many people still think this is all planned. Not least the Hermes courier the other day who refused to step back when I asked him to (no mask, of course) and gave me a lot of verbal abuse, well-peppered with bollocks straight from the "Do YoUr OwN rEsEaRcH oN yOu TuBe" playbook.

Excellent news about your dad. Hoping mum will get her call this week.

Yes because ten hours of youtube trumps a decade of scientific study and research.

If life was only that simple, you just have to speak to a plumber or electrician and hear about all the DIY Youtube led botch jobs they have to fix. Yes, youtube is great for basic simple jobs but not for anything more complicated if you have no background or real skills!

YouTube is a godsend for telling you how to put together flat pack furniture where the instructions are in many languages, none of which you speak.

Not so much for rewiring the house. Or a hot take on a global pandemic.

I just hate that! The amount of times that I get delivery persons that just don't care. Masks under their chin, right in your face, handing you the parcel. I tell them to put it on the step and back off. They either don't understand English, or just don't care.

They might not give a flying f*ck, but I do!! I did have a 'A vulnerable person lives here, please ring the bell and leave parcels in the porch' poster in the front window, but STILL they wanted to give me my stuff from 6 inches a way.

Our normal postie is lovely. He rings the bell, puts the parcel in the porch, steps outside the front gate and when I open the door, he asks if we are alright and if we need anything :)

Fuming to see the news today that the serial rule-breaker Stanley Johnson is soon to get his second jab of the Pfizer vaccine at 80. I know somebody of 95 that hasn’t heard a thing about getting their first dose, but one rule for Boris’s father and another for the rest!

I really worry about society and how we move on from this constant blame culture. It’s incredibly sad I have to say and not one I want my kids to grow up in anymore.

Ditto our actual postie is a godsend. He's not a young man himself, so I do worry about him.

I guess we're getting a press conference again tomorrow as the vaccine numbers start being given to us daily

i don't get matt hancocks comments today about every adult being offered the jab by autum

we are aiming for 2m people a week based on only having access to 2 vaccines, 1 of which has temperate requirements and the only of which hasn't ramped up production to what it will be in a month or two

I can see why it would be the autumn if we stayed at this level but we won't be!

I can only think they want to make sure Chris Whitty's throwaway comments about maybe having to have restrictions next winter don't come to fruition.

Professor Chris Whitty said it would be possible to be reinfected with Covid-19 after people had been vaccinated but that cases would occur at a “much lower rate”.

“The risk of getting Covid a second time if you’ve had it a first time are substantially reduced, probably between 80% and 90% at least over the first six months,” England’s chief medical officer told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“We are confident it reduces the risk but it doesn’t reduce it to zero, so reinfection is a possibility and the same will be true after vaccination.

“Reinfections will occur but at a much lower rate.”

Prof Whitty added that while the virus does not often last long as an infection, symptoms such as a cough could persist for a very long time.

Slightly panicked here that mum's letter is lost in the post somewhere. I'm in one of the London boroughs that effectively doesn't have a postal service at present (we had our first delivery this year yesterday) so I just don't know what to do. I could pop her in a cab and take her to Excel, but it's a) miles away, and b) I'm skint, thanks to the house trying to fall to bits all at once.

Do the doctors not text people about these jabs? Bloody letters?!?!?

I got a text a week or so ago to say where the jab would be and that we would hear from them. That was from our doctors surgery. Then another test a few days later with a link so that you could book the day and time. I would get in touch with someone if she has not heard anything at all.

If nothing comes tomorrow, I might try and get in touch with the surgery (not hers) that I know is the local centre, because I saw people queueing outside it on the news the other night! We had post again today (including a load of Christmas cards!), so they're obviously busting a gut to try to get things straight again.
