With Amazon's Professional account (£30 per month) I found the fees to be similar to Ebay if I ignored the fact that I was paying £30 a month... (the fees depend on the category though so you might find it different). Since I downgraded my account, I pay about £1 more per item I think, so it's definitely more expensive than Ebay for me. I charge an extra £1 for my items on Amazon.
Premium Account Pro's
- A chance at the Buy Button (Amazon don't automatically give you a buy button - crazy I know. One of the conditions for possibly getting the buy button is you must have a professional account. The rest is a mystery and there are many blog posts about it!).
- You can set your own shipping rates (since downgrading, Amazon has enforced £2.99 shipping on all of my items and I can no longer offer free shipping either).
- Lower fees (apparently it's economically worth it if you sell 30 items or more per month).
I know you didn't ask this, but you should be prepared for the fact that Amazon's customer support isn't as good as Ebay's. I used their support maybe about 5 times - absolutely useless. I'm not exaggerating. Just be very wary because they gave me incorrect information every time I asked, and most of what I asked was very basic. You are better off asking on the Amazon seller forums if you need help. The other sellers are very helpful on there.
The only advantage I found that Amazon have over Ebay is that the payment isn't taken from the buyer until you mark the item as shipped, so if the buyer cancels, you don't get charged (Ebay charge £0.36 payment processing fee if the buyer cancels the transaction).

I've only listed a handful of products. My best seller had a barcode. The item and description were already filled in, yes. I did try to edit the description slightly (I was the only seller) but it wasn't approved. If it's on Amazon already you aren't supposed to make your own listing - you are only supposed to use the existing listing - so there might be lots of sellers on the same listing.
The barcoded product (I had a buy button for this) - 95% of my sales were on Amazon, 5% Ebay.
My own products (no buy button) - 95% Ebay, 5% Amazon (until I downgraded about a month ago - no sales on Amazon since then). I think the fact that the barcoded product already had over 1000 reviews helped a lot with sales.
