Hi folks,
So I thought it might be worth writing a little diary on here so that I can share how I am making a little extra money which is, to be fair, blimmin’ useful! I am very lucky that I am not in any substantial debt (I pay for a car but keep up to date with my payments) so I take the view that what I earn goes towards that.
There is though a slightly more personal reason why I want to make more money. A few years ago, I had £10k arrive into my bank account, but over the course of time, I managed to spend a lot of it. Combine this with going through a difficult time personally over recent years and now I am determined to make it back. If and when I have £10,000 in my bank account, then that will be a job done.
I keep a record of the extra money I am earning. I did well in September, with £465 earned extra, although generally I do earn a bit less than this. I also have a full-time job which is pretty demanding, but I get a great sense of achievement when I earn a bit of extra money.
Since I started doing this, I have made roughly £3,500 (I keep extra earnings in a separate bank account). That’s since July last year, so it’s working out on average at £250 per month.
Here are the things I have been doing since then:
Matched betting - I was doing this fairly aggressively for a year or so and still occasionally dabble. However, lots of gubbings, not qualifying for free bets, and general increasing stress of it all meant that I have really dialled down on this - it wasn’t good for my mental health, especially the casino offers, which yes I know make money in the long term, but in the short term you can lose.
Surveys - I do these, but not so much as I used to. Many sites pay pretty poorly; that is if you get paid at all, and don’t get screened out. However, I think the PopulusLive, ProlificAcademic and Pinecone websites are good. I get fairly regular stuff from them and had several payouts. ProlificAcademic is probably my favourite - enjoyable research surveys which can pay pretty decently.
Mystery Shops - Roamler is my top choice on this one. BeMyEye is OK, but I have less confidence my submissions will be approved and some of their missions aren’t that easy to complete. There are other apps too which also are OK. I’d say I make a fair chunk of my extra income from these: some of the ones I’ve done have paid £20+ and there are quite a few locally that I do.
Focus Groups - extremely profitable if you can get them. I’ve done a few in recent months, plus there is a local organisation which does them - you get paid £10 a time, which can be exchanged for vouchers for high street shops (which is fine). You are often in and out in about ten minutes, trying new food products.
Receipt scans - don’t overlook these; you might as well do it since it’s free and you get paid cash - I’m just about to withdraw £10 from Storewards. Takes ages to build up but worth it as it’s a quick two second job!
Anyway, my aim for October is to make £250 - anything extra is a bonus.
As for my longer term plan to get to £10k, we are looking at a couple of years for this; basically I want to make another £6,500, which at £250 per month would take 26 months. So by Christmas 2023, I will have hit the milestone - but obviously, earning more will get me there quicker.
One final thing. I am tempted by doing something on sites like Fiverr (is that what it is?). I thought of the idea of creating special occasion messages - tailored to what the client wants but recorded professionally (I have experience and access to equipment). I’m just rummaging the idea around my head but thought maybe that’s a little money spinner somehow? Perhaps with added visuals? One to think about I think, not sure if it’s something that would work but just a vague idea in my head.
Anyway I will keep a diary on here to keep me somewhat accountable! It’s been good to post!
