I wouldn’t use Word for that sort of thing. I use Photoshop but you can get free alternatives like GIMP, not sure if Canva is free.

Thanks for that Rich! I finally managed to sort it all out to only find that my printer won't take the archival paper :ROFLMAO:

Is it a textured paper you need? Rymans do a paper with a canvas type texture called 'laid paper' ... you could ask for a sample before forking out for a whole pack. A friend of mine tried it, it doesnt work on a laser printer but seems ok on my deskjet

I wanted to use the archival paper because of it's finish. It's like a photo finish I think(?) and because my printer is Epson too, i thought it'd be fine but it's not :ROFLMAO:

Welcome to my life lol

:ROFLMAO:

I'm stuck for the time being now! so might have to try digital downloads and see if they do okay

Anyone know of any reputable companies I could get 5-10 prints of my art done? I think I am going to test waters and see if I can sell 5-10 before I proceed with printers and what not haha.

My printer won't take the card and the printer at my work is a laser! :ROFLMAO:

What kind of finish are you after? Matte? Gloss?

I used to print at Tesco at the start. It was about £6 for a glossy print.

If you wanted matte… I could do them for you :)

Thanks Rich.

I actually did buy a pack of matte epson paper so would be interested in your offer? Shall I pm you?

Do you know if companies like vistaprint or printify etc offer like a bundle deal? Perhaps like 10 prints for a discounted price?

I’ve never used them to be honest so I wouldn’t know. You can PM me if you want.

Hey everyone, thought I’d pop in

I’m still getting sales but it’s definitely slowed down a bit lately. I think people are watching the pennies. I’ve checked the forums and lots of Etsy sellers are going through the same thing. Last April I made £1700+ and so far this April is £800+. I’m still grateful for everything, I haven’t had to get a “proper job” and I get by. I’m using the quiet time to just make new designs. Christmas 2020 I sold mainly welly prints, 2021 was more scrabble prints, so I’m just trying to get a range of different prints so that hopefully 2022 will be even better.

On the plus side, I’m about to hit 5,000 sales and I’m slowly growing my Instagram account!

Hope everyone’s all good.

Hey Rich

Hope you dont mind me asking .... your etsy shop have you got a link to have a look....

seems you have tapped in to something that is big at the moment, do you see it being a covid thing and so now it may all fall away as the living crisis hits or is etsy still a growing market place?

Quite a few people I know are now going to Etsy for buying 'occasion' cards so not birthday/christmas ones but more 'Well done you your first job' or 'Hope you have a nice last day at work' etc.

Hey,

I can’t really post the link mate because if people click on it and don’t buy anything it has an impact on search rankings  But if you Google “Etsy number6UK” it will come up.

I definitely don’t think it’s just a Covid thing. I think you just have to make good pictures that people will buy. I think I give good custom service too - and I get lots of people buying again.
Thanks mate ill take a look :)

Is there money to be made as we are now heading into Summertime?

If you created prints around families having holidays etc, is there much season market for that?

It’s not something I’ve seen anyone doing to be fair so I’m not sure. It has been quiet lately but then today I’ve had 5 orders (£50) so far. Hopefully get a couple more later.

As long as you are having that steady trickle of orders coming in that's the important thing so you at least have something to build off!

@rich110991 Ive just been looking into doing this again as Ive finally got a (very basic) grip of software. I was thinking of going on ebay as I think it has a bigger audience and Im quite familair with it. Fees work out about £! per sale. But the prices for simialr produicts are so low on there - havent really looked into etsy so much but from what i can see
1 - listing and fvf fee about a quid
2 - postage about £1.50 large letter
3 hard backed envelope, about £1.20 from the post office
4 cost of materials and ink - no idea, lets say 50p on a deskjet

Do these costs seem about right to you? A lot of the items are similar to your welly prints as well as those time-consuming family with a million hairstyles to choose from ones and theyre listed at £4.79 with free postage.

Envelopes - I buy 250 with stiffeners which really help to protect the print. If you post them without a stiffener they will just get damaged. And it works out about 26p each.

Postage is £1.05 on Etsy for 2nd Class Large Letter.

I wouldn’t bother with eBay. Those family ones you mentioned you can sell for at least £10 on Etsy.

The fees on Etsy really aren’t that bad.

My ink is about £100 for a full set, but I’ve had my printer since January and the ink’s not even close to needing replacing yet.

Paper is £26.99 for 100 sheets.

I buy cello bags to put the prints in too. About £20 for 500.

My welly print is £11.99 on Etsy at the min, towards Christmas I will put it up to £14.

Wow, looks like youve nailed the costs. I'm thinking of doing a specific niche around motorbikes, the biker scene etc ...cant envisage all that faffing about with family prints.
