Hello all, I wondered if you could give me some advice.

Annoyingly I have missed some payments for a domain name (the emails went into spam) and it has now been handed over to a debt collector.

I have been in touch with both and they are really putting their foot down and don't sound like they are gonna budge.

I never received any of the letters or phone calls that they claim to have made to me but that is because I gave them dud details as I didn't want to get spammed constantly.

The fines go up to £90 which is really annoying but I could technically afford it.

Would rather not pay but if it's going to be a really hard battle then I can't be bothered to deal with it...

I want it to go away as quickly and painlessly as possible - does anyone have any advice?

how did you manage to do that? I thought when registering a domain (and it's been a while!) you had to give it your home details and then you can obviously pay to have it blanked out if people do a WHOIS on your domain.

I assume you gave them dud details for the billing / invoice thing.

I suppose it's no different than you moving house and not informing them of the move.

If the debt has moved from the hosting company to a debt collection it's them who the debt is now with so I'd probably just be inclined to pay the £90 since you want it to go away ASAP (which I don't blame you for!!)

Pay it!

It's not the hosting company's fault that you didn't give the correct details so they couldn't contact you and it's not their fault that you missed the payments.

I don't really see how you can fight it, you gave false info so the error is on your part not their's.

If you gave incorrect details then you're going to have to pay it.

It's not their fault that they couldn't contact you.

It's a long story how it ended up getting to be such a mess but I will just pay up and put it to bed.

Another one to chalk up to experience and make sure I don't do again in future!

Hello luckyj142 I have had dealings with debt collectors over the past twelve months for small misdemeanours such as yours. My advice is to pay them because they will not go away. I got on with them because i felt it was best to. If you have a grievance with the original provider its best to speak to them but I would recommend keeping the debt collectors happy.

Agreed! I paid the fees and cancelled the account, it's for domains I don't even use anymore which makes it all the more frustrating!
