Hi all,

Just thought I'd give a little intro - I'm fairly new to matched betting. Only done a few sign up offers so have lots to learn and work my way through but am currently really enjoying it! Profit for 5 minutes to place 2 bets is wonderful!

I'm a mum to a 2 year old and also training to be a midwife (go in to my second year tomorrow actually) so alongside academics, I'm working 12.5 hour shifts at the hospital, so don't really get a lot of time to make money in other ways :)

Currently we're saving to pay off some debt (my husband and I) so this will be so useful once I can get this up and running to its full potential. I can't wait for the day that I'll have enough money available to do every offer that comes along! But it will happen I'm sure :)

So for now, I'm waiting for SkyBet to verify me so I can use my free bet (seems to be taking an AGE) and I'm just waiting for a qualifier with William Hill to settle whilst looking at odds that may be good to use my free £30 on!

Anyway, my question re Paddy Power, I've heard some people say not to use betfair as the exchange when backing on PP as they are owned by the same company it is a quick way to get gubbed. Is there any truth in this? I have a little bit of time yet before I'll be on to the PP offer, but want to prepare myself just in case.

Looking forward to being part of this great community!

Hi @MamaMidwife

It's only the sportsbook side of betfair that has merged, NOT the exchange so you are fine ;)

I thought it was the two companies that had merged (PP the slightly bigger shareholder)

In any case I would still avoid using Betfair as the exchange for your PP betting. Smarkets is used a lot by MB'ers as it has a much lower commission rate and has a £10 sign-up offer.

The two companies are now merged into one company, called unimaginatively 'Paddy Power Betfair'. The most paranoid people will tell you not to lay PP bets on Betfair for this reason.

I don't believe there is any evidence of paddy power cross referencing your bets with your account on betfair but if you want to be 100% safe, use a different exchange.

What has happened though - and has happened to me - is as soon as you get gubbed from one you are much more likely to get gubbed by the other. I was gubbed by Betfair Sportsbook one day and then Paddy Power the next.

Also, just for info, Ladbrokes Coral own BETDAQ although I've never heard anyone mention related gubbings between those organisations.

To echo what others have said, I wouldn't worry about potential gubbings from laying at this site or that site. What will get you gubbed is taking arbs on horses, value odds on anything and betting on obscure events. Try to mix in with the everyday punter by using mainstream markets and not hammering the horses too much too soon . Good luck:)
