Hmmm I am soooo nosy, but I love to drill down into things and figure out how things work and what's the best way of doing things. I am also super interested in how peoples minds work (probably why I trained as a coach).

just as a quick yes or no answer (so I am not wasting your time) do you still do the lottery now that you are doing the things detailed on this site or is that a 'mugs' game due to the odds etc?

Honestly, I am just curious. Haha maybe I should make my own survey site - oh yea but I've not got the money to pay people haha.

Yes, but only because I’m in a family syndicate. It would be awful if the rest of them won big and I wasn’t part of it!

I stopped doing national lottery long before joining TMS, personally find it a total mugs game and especially when they doubled the price due to lack of users. I do the Postcode lottery (have won several small amounts) and my wife does the Scottish Childrens Lottery (without success)

I have won on the national lottery a few thousand in the early days, but for the last few years it is mostly those flipping free goes. I started the postcode lottery but didn't win anything so I am thinking of giving them all a miss for a little while and using my money for matched betting instead.

Yes - because we've fallen into the trap of having the same numbers every week. One of the jobs I did for years meant that I always landed up seeing the lottery numbers and was so worried about not buying our usual tickets and seeing our numbers come up :( Unfortunately now we don't have that worry, we're still in the trap :(

isn't it funny how we feel compelled to do things like this? I have not been consistent anyway recently because I often haven't been able to afford it so I feel its a good time to break the cycle. :)

Does anyone remember the time Alan Dedicoat called 2 of the numbers out before they left the lottery machine? kind of put me off it after that

I always get tempted when I go past the lottery kiosk in the supermarket, or when buying petrol so I am a mug, especially silly when it’s a roll over or something. I do know of someone who won £300k, it really was life changing so I always fell that it is Possible however unlikely.

It's the big life change that's tempting.

Gah, I know it's a total mug's game, but I still buy a ticket occasionally when the jackpot is huge... although I try to off-set the frivolous spending by reining in on something else like a treat.

The bit I don't understand is my in-laws, who play almost every draw week-in, week-out, yet always claim that they're short of cash. Apparently a fortune-teller once told them they they'd win money. Clearly the crystal ball gazer had shares in Camelot.

What I don’t understand is why more people want to play when it’s a rollover. With all those extra tickets being bought your chances of winning are even smaller. Surely 1 mil is just as life changing as 13 mil?!

But your odds / chances don't' change do they just because more people play

If i choose the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 there is just the same amount of chance of those numbers coming up if there are 1 million people playing or 10 million

For me, I only play when the jackpots are larger. For some reason £50million+ interests me but £3million doesn’t.

I’ve changed my lottery playing strategy. Previously I’d buy tickets for draws as and when. Sometimes I’d buy 50 tickets+ (eek!).

Now I try to buy tickets only for

1, mega jackpots (max 5 tickets)
2, where there is increase chance in winning (extra 1000 £20k winners/that kind of thing)
3, Jackpot which has to be won
4, More UK winners in the Euromillions guaranteed.

But I can go for weeks without buying tickets.

I’d be more than happy with £3 mil or even £1 mil for that matter! :)
