@Dick Barton That is impressive.

Selling on eBay is not unusual but I have in the past sold corks (from wine bottles) and empty Molton Brown bottles for money on eBay. They went for quite a bit considering what they were.

Buying tat quality merchandise from auctions and selling it at boot sales.

Actually I'm surprised how little car boot sales get mentioned on here. Both for buying and selling. Not the time of year for it now of course.

@homie

I used to do car boot sales all the time. Sometimes would make £100, then it dropped to £50 and when it dropped to £20 i stopped as it wasn't worth my time. It all depends if you buy stuff cheap to then sell on. I was just selling stuff from around the house.

I think they have dwindled quite a bit now. Even charity shops don't sell stuff cheap anymore - they have cottoned on to selling it on eBay for more money themselves.

Forgot buying a hundred luminous hot pants to sell on eBay from Germany that I was thought was a sure fire way to turn a profit

It was not...

As you mention car boots, it is one place I find a lot of items for ebay. I sometimes look for old books (50p touch) with colour plates and if the book is really tatty I will remove these and sell them on ETSY.

In my student days I dressed as a rather scantily clad witch and handed out flyers for a local bar. Freezing cold but I got paid and got a free night out too.

I do carboots all the time. Both to buy and sell. Often pick up cheap things for 50p - £1 and sell them on eBay or Facebook for a profit. And whenever I have a big declutter I always do a couple of boot sales. As long as I make my pitch back I'm happy because it clears my house and it's quite a fun way to spend a few hours really.

In reply to emmarald, one way to outsmart dealers at car boots is to look for items to buy that they have no knowledge of. You give a good example with the Molton Brown bottles and corks.

We drink alot of wine in my house but was also getting friends and family to give me their corks. I have also when in restaurants asked for the cork when we have wine with dinner and sometimes if you were lucky the waiter would grab a boat load of corks from the wines they had opened that day or had lying around.

Picked up a second hand but free pram travel system on Friday that I sold for £50 on Saturday only cost me like 50p on petrol was pretty happy with that one, usually try to pick up free item on second hand sites and sell them on, you always see loads of sofas people trying to give away for free wish there was a way to make money off that really

I once went to Gilette in Reading and donated a small number of hairs from my beard and got paid £70 for it. I still have no idea...

Yes , it's one of those areas where that are both collectable and tends to attract a demographic with a high disposal income. i.e. men of a certain age, who don't have a lot else to spend their money on (and I speak as a 52 year old man). Cricket items can be the same, and I got well rewarded for putting my old Subbuteo items on ebay
