In hindsight - What should I have done?

Hello,

I wanted to ask what people thought about a “mess up” i had today and whether I did the correct thing.

Basically, I signed up to Betvictor today to activate the deposit £10, get £40 free bets offer. Off I went and placed my qualifying bet no problem. I then came to use my 3x £10 bets, found a match. Setup on Betfair and placed my lay to find to my horror that I couldn’t use all three £10 bets on the same game/bet. So I quickly deposited £20 to match the shortfall. I know that I still have the 2x free £10bets to use on something else. But wondered if I should of done something differently.

Thanks in Advance :D

Read the T&Cs of the free bets! :p

Seriously though, its really important to know exactly what is required for the free bets. Have you checked to make sure you've layed the correct amount to cover for the fact you are no longer betting' with free money?

The other thing you could have done at the time was maybe place 3 seperate identical bets of £10. Would BV have allowed that within their T&Cs?

Did the offer instructions say this at all?

I assume you are using PA or OM..

That was what was so frustrating! It just said it would be dished out as 3 x £10 bets I definitely didn’t see anything about it not allowing multiple use of the free bets on the same bet. I therefore just thought it’d be like the WH one where I just placed it three times over. I even re-read the T&C before proceeding.

And no I didn’t check :O how would I work it out now with 1 x free bet and a £20 cash bet if I’ve matched for £30s worth of free bets? Just work out the lay for the 2 sepertate bets?

The other thing you should have done is place the back bet first. There is always the temptation to lay first particularly if the odds are moving quickly, but it is rarely a good idea as not only can you find the issue you have, but you may not be allowed a particular stake (especially if the price is a special or boost)

This, this, SO MUCH THIS. Never Lay first, due to your liability - if things go wrong with odds moving, you could be horribly out of pocket very quickly.

What I do is I fill out my Lay stake ready, place the Back bet, then hop back to the window and I just have to hit the button to Lay the bet. It means there's only a few seconds window between the 2 bets being placed and minimises risk.

Thanks for the advice. It’s true as mentioned I live in fear of the lay bet odds changing and will do as suggested next time. I guess I live and learn ;) On another note really enjoying the MB - just need to tidy it up a bit and I’m hoping it’ll be a nice little boost to my income.

There's a reason all the offer instructions say PLACE THE BACK BET first.... ;)

Haha - unfortunately as with many other examples in my life I didn’t even make that connection! However sheer panic makes me learn very quickly :p

As been mentioned ALWAYS place your back bet first, also you could have backed it on the exchange for the difference between what you had layed and what you needed to with only the £10 free bet rather than £30 rather than betting more on BetVictor
