It's becoming a bit of a sport recently..

Saw another example of it today

Everything just gets picked apart to the Nth degree for no real reason

The saying that you need to have broad shoulders on social media if you are trying to promote your blog I think is stronger than ever!

I know that as a blogger you have to put both yourself and your content out there so you are 'fair game' to a certain degree but it just seems sometimes that social media can be a race to see who is the first to claim they are offended and then it's just a pile on echo chamber after that!

Maybe it's always been this way and I'm just being forgetful!!

I saw that post on Twitter this morning. I follow a couple of people who seem to specialise in political comment alongside ridiculing others randomly, this was right up their street.

I think it depends on the subject you blog about as to the amount of abuse you will suffer.

Yeah very good point!

Fashion, Lifestyle, Beauty bloggers must take a fair amount of grief for the pics they put up.

I saw one parent blogger last week who is over in Florida put up a IG picture of them at Seaworld and below was some right abuse about going there..

Broad shoulders seem to be the order of the day!

It seems to me that those who bother leaving nasty remarks are just fueled by jealousy. Sad, really.
I'm not entirely sure it is just because I can't see a load of blokes (or women) being jealous of having helium balloons attached to your bed in the morning.

It's not the helium balloons - it's her snazzy pyjamas!

I meant that people are jealous of the success/popularity? of other bloggers

Oh my god, I feel really bad for her now but the original tweeter does have a really good point as so many people have self-esteem and inadequacy issues from all the images that are fed to them from social media (and the media in general).

It's wrong for this one woman to receive so much hate and be singled out though

She has been ridiculed, and I think fairly.

She should not be 'hated'.

Her Instagram posts started with
"The best of days start with a smile and positive thoughts. And pancakes. And strawberries. And bottomless tea."
With a photo of her in her PJs on her bed.
Its a 'paid partnership' not an advert so to me, that is a her saying the photo is her 'best of days start'.

The balloons
The Plate of 3 strawberries
The Plate of tortilla (with strawberries)
The Pictures on the headboard
The weird bedspread (is that a photo of her?)
The freshly made bed she is now on top of.
The Listerine on the bedside table (where EVERYONE keeps their listerine?!!?!!)

As a 'paid partnership' (or advert if you want) I, and others, can ridicule the whole set up for what it is. What people can't do is 'hate' her for doing it.

Each to her own, and I think she is trying to show an 'aspirational' lifestyle, however, to me it is as real as photos in magazines.

So to be clear.

Hate is Bad
Criticism is allowed.

Some people do tend to associate criticism with hate, but they are not the same thing.

My 2p on this....

Her photo is ridiculous but it's no dafter than the majority of lifestyle blogger photos on there really, so she doesn't deserve half the grief she's getting.

I like a good piss take as much as the next person but this just seems like something to have yet another witch hunt about.

FYI none of my days start like this but I don't get an arse on if someone else wants to pretend theirs do!

Good point about magazines that!

No one complains when pictures of Katie Price and her kids appear in OK magazine in setup photo-shoots which are the EXACT same thing as here!

If the grief is hate then she doesn't deserve it.

But if it is ridicule then it isn't hate.

However....

The suggestion of 'hate' does help fill online newspapers and increase followers....so there is no harm in playing up to the 'camera' (not suggesting this what this particular instagrammer has done).

If I see them, I DO complain.

I think that people do complain ridicule all the time. Film, TV, magazines. Think how often people laughed at how the houses used to look on Through the Keyhole. This has happened for years.

Now though, people take ridicule and cry 'hatred'. Having 'hatred' gives more compassion and more inches in the publications who promote this stuff.

On the next page the same publications will show a 'celebs' cellulite or wrinkles. Or celebrate a famous person's daughter for turning 16.

Its all, at best, vapid.

I do complain but just not on social media because that'll just give them more publicity

Some very good points by @The Reverend so I'll keep my 2p in my coin jar

I think these Instagram folk are damned if they do and damned if they don't

Their images need to stand out and be aesthetically pleasing. They aren't blogging, they are just pictures so they need to inspire and capture the readers' imagination in that one instance and it's probably quite hard to do that without bending the reality somewhat.
