I couldn't find a thread which listed these (apologies if there is) but thought it would be a nice idea to have a list of alternatives to sometimes expensive software - I'm more aware of creative software but I'm sure there's loads of others - some of them I know of are a little random :)

Google Drive - Open Office used to be my go to alternative to office for Word and Excel but found later versions weren't very stable (particularly on a mac) so find myself more and more often using the software on Google Drive - does most things you need it to (and can read Word and Excel files). It's all saved online so you can access where ever you have an internet connection.

Krita - alternative to Photoshop (GIMP is often recommended but I've only ever found to be useful for photo editing which is what it's intended purpose is but Krita is much more similar in scope to Photoshop)

iMovie - this is more for mac users but if you want a basic simple to use editor to stitch clips together for YouTube iMovie is more than capable (it's no match for Premiere or Final Cut Pro but for everyday use it's more than acceptable)

Blender - this one is probably not going to be the most useful but it's an open source 3D modelling and animation software, an alternative to the high end 3D software used by major studios - they use either custom built or Maya, 3D Studio Max or some other hideously expensive alternative (but is not far behind in its capabilities - though I'm not a huge fan of the interface!).

I'll add more as I think of them but these are the ones I use the most!

I'm a huge advocate of using Canva - I use it for nearly ALL blog graphics I need and anything social media wise as well. Saves me an absolute fortune compared to paying for graphics software to do all this!
