It is and it isn't.

i feel i'm in some sort of weird limbo land at the moment where I'm working my butt off in my current job to get everything handed over next month which is odd because I won't even be here so what do i care lol

Well I've got 4 working days left at work. I finish working next Friday.

They are interviewing for my replacement on Monday and I then have to do the WORDS QUICKEST HANDOVER on probably Wednesday or Thursday... Talk about cutting it fine!!

Firstly, congratulations and good luck - meant to post in this thread before today!

And wow, this handover is quick - though I guess some is better than none (for them at least). I imagine it must feel so odd having to hand over when the new person's success in the job doesn't really affect you.

Congratulations! I missed this post so just catching up. Definitely living the dream to be your own boss and you've gone about it the sensible way by building up to it. You're an inspiration and I'm hoping to one day follow suit into flexible self employment.

I agree with the advice about getting out to reduce cabin fever. It'll help to have face to face conversions with folk too (although us lot on here have pretty good chat too if ever you need, lol). Best of luck, you'll do great and we're looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Thanks!

Yeah they are gonna get quite a shock next week when I do the handover. You are right it is odd having to go to all the effort of making handover documentation etc when in reality I don't really give a hoot what happens after I leave!

Aye It's been a very slow process but I've got there through surveys / ebay and task apps through to Leapforce and 63336 and now just blogging and Matched Betting.

How did waking up at 10am with a 'salaried' job to attend, feel?

are you looking to replace your previous salary 100% with online earnings? What are your plans?

I literally don’t have anything now EXCEPT online earnings!

I earn enough from home to live off so anything extra is just “fun money” but as time goes on and I get involved with creating more sites I’m hoping that income will increase

Sounds like it is all going well so far. Have you got a schedule or anything or just going to see how it goes?

No schedule at all.

Not sure doing 9-5 from home sort of works as otherwise you might as well just get s regular job if you are going to do those sort of hours.

It’s more about “tasks” I want to achieve or accomplish each week / month

Task based is a good way to work. Keep us posted on how it's going. You've definitely inspired us here!

Just caught up with this. I retired nearly two years ago at 65 and have not regretted it. Congratulations on making the move Jon. I think we all wondered how you fitted every thing in. I do think you have to make more effort to socialise when you don't have work colleagues. It can also be a bit difficult to get your family to realise you are actually working and don't want casual visitors or phone calls.

@Jon How was your first full week of self employment? Anything surprise you or is it a bit early to tell? More importantly, are you happy or are you wanting back into the rat race ;)?

My “getting up and starting work” pattern is still all over the place but apart from that I feel more settled.

I’ve got a desk / mouse / bloody mouse mat all setup now which helps me as it means I’m not working on the corner of the sofa downstairs.

I only seem to be doing around 3-4 hours a day at the moment which I’m happy with in reality is probably the same amount of ACTUAL work people do in an office job lol

No wants at this end to return to regular employment. I’m just trying to build a bankroll at this end to give myself a good free months of “buffer cash” should I hit any dry periods!

This is what it's all about. Don't count the hours, the more hours you work the less productive you are being. Streamline everything. You did not leave the world of 'normal work' to go and sit down in front of a computer for 8 hours a day in a different location.

Work smart, not hard.
