Horses do travel on planes (as freight - in special containers), but generally UK horses going to France or Ireland will travel in horse boxes via the normal (mostly ferry) routes
So when we ship horses over to run in the Melbourne cup and stuff they are in a plane all that long?

Is it a special plane without human passengers on it?

Western Sydney Wanderers is where all my money is going tonight

You can still use all these sort of games for your free bet club in most situations!

I think they have stopovers.

Yes and no. For big races (like the Melbourne Cup) they configure a freight plane with just horses, but for smaller amounts of horses they go standard freight.

FASCINATING STUFF!

Love horses, always have, probably cos I grew up in Norfolk and so Newmarket, Fakenham, Great Yarmouth Races was never very far away so my parents would always take me (especially to the latter 2 as it was cheap as chips!)

I've not looked but I wonder what the hell At The Races is showing right now?
They spent a boatload of cash the other year rebranding into the 'Sky Sports' tent and RacingUK seems to be forever paying out for their oddball contracts

Sky Sports Racing is showing US/Australian/UAE races, Racing UK are showing mostly back to back Chelts races, but they are the ones that have Dundalk on Friday

That's correct, we sometimes fly between Ireland and France if we are moving a lot of horses or for runners for the big races - think Irish Guineas and Prix De L'Arc du Triomphe. I was really lucky and got to fly with the stallions when we brought them over from Ireland for the big Stallion parade in December. We have two planes dedicated for horses, with special air crates that we designed but other companies hire the air crates which cost around 25k for a crate. On your average Ryanair sized plane you can get 5 crates taking upto 15 horses. Our big plane holds upto 60 odd horses. They cope really well, walk up the ramp into the plane as we do on the small plane but on the big one they put in their crates at the boarder inspection point and then get lifted in.
But mostly for Europe, we go via road. The Eurotunnel is great for getting to France quickly.
Irish racing is still going ahead but without foreign runners, we are just trying to establish if UK is foreign!

As part of the transition arrangements we still count as EU if that helps (as the EU commission are pushing all members to not have any internal borders during the crisis)

We are, but with Irish racing at the moment it is up to them on whether they will only take horses from inside Ireland or whether they will let UK horses come over.

This morning's sports news consisted of everyone ragging on Japan for not cancelling the olympics and videos of premier league footballers playing keepy uppy with loo roll.

Not much scope for matched betting there

I would LOVE the Olympics to go ahead but I think even if it does it will be behind closed doors

Not unexpected. They do say that there will be a workable treatment by some time in April (but a vaccine is still going to be probably next year)
I expect other sports will follow suit. Beginning again at the end of April DOES make sense as I think it gives us all enough time to get used to the current situation and for the infected numbers to go south a bit after all the changes they are making
