I like the look of this but, looking on some of the facebook sites , most people seem to focus on planner, diaries etc. With loads of similar stuff being on sale in B and M, poundland , ryman etc, for anything between £1 and a tenner, i cant see how its worth spending time on creating them,

@bobcat2010, how's this venture going for your recently?

Amazon KDP sounds like an interesting venture.

Slowed down massively because of the whole situation with COVID-19 but still fun and profitable. Working hard to get as many up as possible for when things get more back towards 'normal'

@bobcat, when researching this I noticed that delivery times will naturally be affected. Would it be OK if you PM me one of your links. You seem really clued up on the POD area.

Are planners and journals worth while? There just seems to be LOTS of similar stuff in value retailers

@bobcat2010

I saw something late last night stating you have to change your area to the United States. They are only delivering these things within the USA and all the above for other areas in the world have been 'wiped' from Amazon for now. If you look for your listings apparently they are not there.

I'm not into doing this (yet) but I just seen this last night and wanted to let you know, as hopefully it will help you.

Cheers!

Thank you! Hopefully when the world starts to return to normal all my books will start to sell a lot more! :D

Just wondering if things are starting to turn back to normal for you?

I've got around 10 books published with a few more in review. I'm made a few sales so far.

Do you do any marketing for your books?

For those that don't want to do Journals etc, there are people making money republishing rights free books from the Guttenberg Project.
All the popular books I checked have already been listed, but with new books releasing on the platform every day. If you can find a niche that old books sell in then there is an opportunity there.
Also as these are proper books, with words and pictures and stuff, it also opens up the possibility of selling to Kindle users.

After my first full month of doing this, I have made £23 for June. I'm already at £7.50 for July, so I'm hoping I'll be able to make at least £60 in July.

I've successfully found a niche that had only 1 competition, that sells around 50 copies a month and I can charge a good price for it, meaning I get £3.66 per book sold. It only went live around a week ago, and I've already sold 4 copies, so I'm hoping I'll see some good results from this book this month.

Just had a quick look at Amazon's policy.

We may refuse public domain content that's already available through our program or other retail sites. To provide a better customer experience, we don't publish undifferentiated versions of public domain titles if a free version is available in our store. Differentiated works are unique. They meet one or more of these requirements:

  • Translated: Unique translations
  • Annotated: Unique annotations (additional content like study guides, literary critiques, detailed biographies, or historical context)
  • Illustrated: 10 or more unique illustrations relevant to the book
So I suppose this means if you find one that's non listed, I can then list it.

Quick question, don't know if you know the answer. Project gutenberg is public domain for U.S. they can't guarantee for any other countries, so I'd have to check copyright law. Does this mean I can only publish in U.S. market place?

Honestly, i haven't a scooby about the copyright stuff, sorry. All I know is that there are a couple of publishers with Guttenberg project books on the Amazon website - they didn't even delete the Guttenberg project blurb in them.

Note i have not done this myself - but i have looked into it slightly and found others who are blatantly using it as a source for free content

One of my newest books is doing really well! I've made £21.96 from it already! With my other books that have sold, I'm already at £25.25 for July and we're only 5 days in!

If the trend of 1 book a day of it selling continues, I'll make over £100 from it

I'd be really interested to see the listings people actually have on Amazon, but I am guessing that is frowned upon or maybe a fear of idea being stolen?

I am just trying to get my head around this right now - I have a few ideas knocking about.

that's easy - search amazon for notebook, habit tracker, gym diary, wedding guest book or whatever else you want to see> scan the results until you see something you like > click into it then click the authors name to see their works.

Regarding using specific wording on a book cover - I've found my own twist on a 5-word movie title, but with only two words the same in my version. Would this be OK to upload? Or a potential copyright issue?

If they are different words and you are not using any logos or artwork from the original then I'm sure that would be fine.
