Hi all!

Hope you are all well!

So i've been doing a lot of art recently and was thinking about sharing methods, drawings, tips, etc on a blog. However, I've always wanted to do things like travelling, music, and a few more. My question to you is, what would you suggest is better?

Having separate blogs for separate topics, or having one blog with all the topics together?

I'm completely new to blogging so hopefully you can make sense from what i've said

Stay safe

if this is just a blog for yourself then I would say make everything as easy as possible so instead of spreading yourself across multiple blogs you could have one blog that covered many different categories

the linchpin to that is that you then need to brand your blog as something that covers all the topics. So you can’t call it “my travelling blog” and then have 50% of your content about art work so just think of a name for your site that covers these topics

Thanks for your reply Jon.

I want to start it for myself at first until I get into the run of things. I recall reading a blog somewhere about someone mentioning that it may be difficult to get traffic to your blog in the future as for example, someone may be looking for art tips, but then see the next post being about travel and then get put off from coming back. What would be your take on this?

On one mind people tend to find your content by searching on google or via social media promotion and they would typically just hit ONE of your pages

so if someone searched for a hair care term on google and your result came up it is THAT is the only page the reader would care about which is why internal linking within your content becomes so important

if you just called the site “my blog” and it had all these categories I’m sure it would be fine. Most mummy / lifestyle bloggers cover numerous topics. Even ones run by @katykicker @The Reverend @Ar_ cover all different categories of content under their site name

No worries, happy to help.

At least you are thinking of this stuff at the start and not going 'oh crap' a few months into your venture! lol

Multiple blogs are hard work - especially if you want to properly market them.

I started my main blog as a multi-niche then decided to branch off the money side but I soon realised how much hard work it was and folded all the social media back to my main blog and my money blog is basically a money making pre-written post dumping ground. I also set up another one based around eating low carb and that one isn't really going anywhere at the moment but again, it's a lot of work to have more than one.

My main, ChammyIRL, covers EVERYTHING and whilst it won't rank on the first page on Google as a whole site, certain topics do because that's how posts work :)

I don't believe in niche blogging personally, it'd drive me crazy to pigeonhole myself and not be able to cover all the different things I want to write about! So honestly, as long as you can categorise your content carefully and make it make sense there's no reason why you can't have multiple ideas in one place. It's not always easy to do but it's definitely doable!

My blog is loosely money blog related but I do other things on it to. Its my blog, for me to do what I want with.

Some people want purely financial blogs.

I don't.

Thanks Chammy! When I get round to it, I think I'm going to start with one or two then as I get used to blogging and how it works, I may start adding other stuff!

Just reading about using bluehost then connecting your wordpress account to it. Can you create a wordpress account first, then start creating your blog, and then come back to bluehost and connect your account? Or would you need to create bluehost first and then connect it straight away?

You don’t want to use bluehost as a hosting company

Oh thanks for that Jon! I'd just read a bit about it and just assumed it was the best one. I only really looked into bluehost and another one called siteground. What would you recommend being the best one?

Entirely up to you based on what you want and how much you are willing to pay. Both the offers down the side for hostpresto or guru would meet your needs
