What would you say are the easiest ways to earn online that people should use when they are starting out?

The obvious one would be surveys but I would say a lot of people find them demotivating so they just throw in the towel and so apps like Roamler, bemyeye etc might be a better thing for people to start with.

what were the first ones you did and what motivated you to keep at it?

  • Matched betting
  • Simple mobile apps (curiouscat, CitizenMe, VYPR, streetbees, xoxpopme, etc)
  • Project work - Lionbridge
  • Surveys - only good paying sites: Prolific, Populus, opinium,
  • Cashback - Topcashback, Quidco.
Overrated (IMO):
- Roamler - very confusing for newbies and seems lots of effort for the earnings
- Poor paying surveys: Toluna, Triaba, Mobrog, etc.

Why am I keeping at it? To build up an "F you" fund to hopefully go self employed in future and escape the office life.

Starting out I would say the simple mobile apps, things you can do with a few minutes to spare if you are working, then the user testing sites are good as the rewards are larger and build up to Matched betting.
I spent a few months just doing Prolific etc building up some cash before going Matched Betting. That is the most rewarding by far.

I started out doing blackjack offers on beating bonuses and then moved onto matched betting following dongle mouse (bows) on the green site.

Had a spell on the gambling times website and gawd knows how many years later here I am *waves* on the shed.

What motivated me?

Curiosity - I like numbers and had no idea what I was doing.
Oh and I'm lazy too. Easy money is awesome!

Matched betting is not what it was though.

Hands down though the best resource I've found has been to read the monthly earnings thread here on the shed - it's awesome to see how much people are earning and throws out new ideas for me to earn every month.

If I were staring out I'd read the monthly earnings thread and investigate each earning opportunity until I could explain them to a newbie starting out.

That way you'll find what pays well, and what suits you.

Then every month I would follow the best advice I've ever read (from a gnomer on OM) - whatever it is you're doing, every month push your comfort zone.

Shepper. Depends how many jobs are on the app in your location and how much they pay but every now and then you'll get something like a car park audit for a tenner. Just before lockdown there was loads of jobs at a fiver each most took ten to fifteen minute and with a planned route you could easily do five or six in a morning

Wow! Good aim that to want to go self employed!

Is there a threshold you need to cross each month or year financially to make this leap?

Yeah I see a lot of people use the smartphone task app work to start doing matched betting and then they sort of don't look back because the money you can make off that for so little work makes it hard to then justify doing surveys for 40p a time!

Totally agree, I usually find 1 or 2 things there a month that I've never even heard of!!!

I miss the days of doing planned routes on those task apps! Used to end up earning a bloody fortune within a few hours, was ace!

I'd need to replace about £1.5k net pcm, although it's more likely to be a 30-35 hour job + side income for a few years. But working in an office stresses me out so badly, I might be a postman or similar to get away from it.
