Thanks Annie✨

that sound good Rninja. I will have a look.

thanks for input Snwwhyte.

I am thinking of doing some baby/toddler design next.

An update re: redbubble.... apparantley they have had some kind of bug that ended up suspending lots of people's accounts!! Hopefully that's what happened to mine and it will be back at some point. The thing I liked about redbubble is that I can upload onto many items at once.

I read that some people got their accounts reinstated and then lost them again as soon as they started uploading so it sounds like they’re still having issues.

@Annie Beau, how do you go about choosing your store name for Redbubble/Spreadshirt /Zazzle etc?
And do you have separate stores for each niche?

A quick glance at Spreadshirt shows random artist names with little thought of store branding.

I only had Redbubble and I don't think I had a store name that I can recall. Tbh I did LOADS of research into POD only to eventually discover that my 4 year old grandson was better at design than I am so I've put it on a backburner until I get the motivation to attempt it again.

I have two Redbubble accounts and they’re both still up but I’m not risking uploading until I know they’ve fixed their issues.
I’m a bit annoyed with Amazon Merch at the moment. I’m tier 2000 and have got more than 2000 sales and have filled 100% of my slots. I’ve been eligible for a tier up for nearly a month and yesterday they tiered up loads of people but not me. They’re trying to get more people to upload to Japan so they’ve tiered up the people who have been selling in Japan which doesn’t include me. People who didn’t have the necessary sales or slots filled were moved up not just one tier but two or three. Amazon’s going to be flooded with even more designs and I’m here deleting designs just so I can add new ones to try. It’s very disheartening.

Redbubble has some negative press atm for promoting designs featuring Captain Tom

whoooppp heard from inkthreadable today. Have an account. I'll have a look around tomorrow and see what's what.

I have been watching lots of videos and reading blogs and I end up doing more researching than designing and uploading.

I don't think I'll be getting a shopify store just yet as it will just be an expense that i will not be making starting out.
I'm wondering if there is a freebie option so will look more into that until I get sales etc.

@peechy, thought Inkthreadable was a POD fulfilment provider rather than an upload and forget platform?

I've just signed up to Spreadshirt UK. Starting off in Marketplace before trying niche Sprradshops. Their upload process seems quite intuitive so far.

@rninja yes i think so too, I was looking at using them for etsy or filling orders myself. I'm thinking it would be an idea to have both upload and forget and a "store type" platform for more specific items.

spreadshirt is one of the sites I have been looking at, I was a little confused by the wording... marketplace designer or shop operator.
is Marketplace designer the same as uploading designs for everyone to buy - like redbubble, zazle etc? What is shop operator? having a shopfront like shopify, etsy etc?

Spreadshirt Marketplace is similar to other POD platforms where you upload designs and they market them.
The only difference with Spreadshop seems more driving your own traffic. Both types can coexist (your designs can be in both) - and I think you can open multiple Spreadshops. But you operate it all from one account.

I'm procrastinating, as ever, can't think of suitable shop names. Paralysis by analysis.

@peechy @minja.. Yep inkthreadable will fulful orders from your own sales. Other companies similar to these are Giftflow and Superfast POD, they have a more extensive catalogue too... Dog bandanas and collars!! Wallets and purses. From memory I'm certain they both integrate with etsy.

I've been accepted on Amazon Merch but now not sure what to do next. I've used gimp before but can't get on with it well. Is there anything else i can try? Any tips for Amazon Merch also?

could you create a design on the software you like (I like paint.net its really easy) then upload the finished design onto gimp?

There’s lots of options for software/websites to try for designing.
Adobe Photoshop - expensive subscription, complicated and time consuming to learn but if you master it it’s incredibly functional.
Photopea - a free, online Photoshop clone
Affinity Designer - an excellent software with a vector and pixel option. Very functional and has a free two week trial and then is about £50 but is occasionally on sale.
Canva - a popular website for creating designs. It has fonts, photos, graphics and templates you can use. There’s a basic free plan and a subscription option if you want to access all their features.
Inkscape - a free vector program. Not as easy to use as some of the others but there are some good tutorials on YouTub.
PlaceIt - a subscription design and mock-up site with editable templates and mock-ups.

There are more options but those are some of the most popular ones. You can search for some tutorials on YouTube and see which ones you might like to try.

Merch tips -
you only have 10 slots don’t bother with any market except US

consider using the Productor Chrome extension. It is more functional than the Merch
dashboard and has a button to help you check your listing for trade marks

make sure to read the rules thoroughly. They’re deliberately vague but be careful of copyright and trademark issues and they’re cracking down on anything sexual or offensive so be careful of that Too.

most people will say stick to t-shirts in tier 10 but I had some success with popsockets and don’t think there’s any reason not to try them if you have an interest in doing them.

There’s a lot to learn with Merch and there are lots of instructional videos on YouTube but be careful whose advice you take. Some of the gurus suggest questionable things that might get you termed.

Ive managed a simple quote on gimp, but the Amazon Merch is so confusing. It wont let me publish, so just trying to work out what i'm doing wrong and how i choose specific items and places to sell. I've given up for now.

Will look into productor chrome.
