I’m not new to this but I’ve been away for well over a year.
I’m doing my first ‘proper’ day again tomorrow as there’s quite a few to be done around my area. Just wanted to ask...

some of these apps require so many pictures I’m not sure it’s possible to stay completely incognito in the shop. If any of you have ever been approached to ask what your doing what do you say?

Yeah I used to get caught quite a lot of times when I used to do these sort of tasks - I just used to say I was taking a photo for my girlfriend to see which items she wanted if it was a stock one

Some of the requirements are a bit ridiculous as they are in small stores. Supermarkets won't bother at all but one company has a job with mobile phone shops in a shopping centre. All very small stores acd all are next to each other.

As stated if its in a big superstore you wont get bothered, small shops avoid like the plague absolutely pointless trying and wasting your time.. As Jon says i also was shopping for someone else and showing them what there was

having said that about larger supermarkets not bothering you...there's currently a MS at a discount retailer... they want you to take at least 3 photos in thirteen sections. One of them is in area where the security look like they eat knuckle dusters for breakfast.
Its a no from me...

It was a couple of years ago and I was doing a mystery shop at an EE store and it wasn't very big. I was escorted out and told never ever to return!

But that was the point of the mystery shop! I hope you put that in your report?

I didn't have an authorization letter like you do nowadays. It could well have been a competitor who approached this app or anything. I am purely speculating and this was in the early days of smart phone mystery shopping apps

Hi.I think you do have to be pretty thick skinned for these. In the "olden" days security had to either physically watch you or strain their eyes over grainy CCTV. Now the stores have state of the art cameras at every angle that are probably able to see whats on your mind never mind anything else. If you are just snapping a product on a shelf it's not a big ask, often though they ask for a whole aisle shot. How can you explain that away. I couldn't do it again, but fortune favours the bold and I say good on you to those that can hold their nerve!!

Some of the apps now ask for a really crazy amount of pics from all angles. There’s no way you can stay inconspicuous when you’re spending 20 mins taking various photos of an aisle and display! I like the quick and easy get in, snap, go or get in buy product snap and go! Really mystery shopping not carrying out a full on retail design consultation
