With the price of electric jumping up and likely to jump again I’ve been looking at ways to cut use (though it’s the standing charges that annoy haha!)

I do find I charge my phone and smart tech quite a bit and wondered whether it’d be worth investing in a ‘solar charger’ for them instead, that I could just leave in a window. Tried a few from Ali express in the past but they either lost charge or took an age to give a trickle of energy.

Does anyone use solar for their smaller chargeable products? Any recommendations ?

Not worth it unless you already have a solar charger for other appliances. A phone charger and similar tech only uses about 5W an hour.

Solar panels for your house are the way forward though. I haven't used any electricity from the grid at all this month.

Ah renting in a city here! So no chance of Solar for me for a while :(

Are your solar panels purchase for on lease? Seeing more people buying them outright now which I hope is a good thing - assuming low maintenance!

Was just curious whether any of the temporary, camping style set ups had any value!

I’m about to buy a Cinch pop-up tent and the solar panel for a holiday in August (the reviews are good), but obviously won’t be able to feed back on whether it’s any use until September!

Yes, purchased and are maintenance free. The large upfront cost is being coming increasingly easy to justify as more energy price rises seem to be looming.

I have two 100 watt solar panels on my garage roof connected to a Victron charge controller. It currently powers an ethereum mining rig but once that doesn’t earn anything I’m going to maybe put the washing machine in the garage and run that from solar and my batteries. It’s fun to set up and you learn a lot. Everything is on YouTube that you need
