Awesome.

Now to shop around for my domain. The .co.uk that I want is available but all the sites have different prices offer...1&1 were very cheeky, offering the first year for £0 but you still need to pay for the second year, though it was only £3.49.

TMS is with vidahost.com

Use JUSTASK at the checkout for 20% off on the domain + hosting

Hosting included Cpanel so it will install Wordpress for you with just the click of a button

I would suggest a .com if you want to rank well internationally.
You might want to check that the free year includes whoisguard too.

I've had a look at AlditoHarrords dairy and then blog. Firstly not sure I understood all the techie words. But it looked SOOOO good if I put my hand on heart I am not sure I can compete. Yeah I can babble about something (do have a brilliant but top secret idea) on a daily basis but can I present it in an orderly fashion. Umm maybe not.

I have only just flung myself into working from home, following a rubbish week at work, and I have lots of ideas bouncing around and leads to follow/investigate. Money isn't my motivator, I do regular volunteer work that will never lead and isn't intended to lead to anything, however I am lucky that my husband works full time and anything I make is bonus/treat money for my family.

I'm also going to jump in on this thread. ;)

I read many blogs but have never had one my first question is - why buy a domain when there is blogger/tumblr etc? Is there something I'm missing here?

Second is about blogging etiquette - most of the stuff I want to share/blog about I have seen/read on Pintrest (lethal timewaster is Pintrest :D) but I wouldn't want to take peoples ideas and claim them as my own but collect them for other people to experience - what is the most respectable way to do this? Links/pics to the blog I saw the idea + my own take on it maybe?

Not blogging but relevant to the previous point: One thing I wanted to do for my Baby shower gifts business was to sell 'games' and all equipment necessary to do them - an Idea I saw on Pintrest (there's that site again) was to guess the number of jelly beans in a bottle. If I got a bottle some sweets and designed a supplement (record card for example) am I doing something wrong here? I feel like I would be.... but if I were to sell packs of 10 white bodysuit with fabric pens for guests to do a 'personalise a bodysuit for the baby' I wouldn't be? I feel the area is quite grey... I absolutely do not want to get into any trouble or upset anyone (whereas some people are quite happy to rip off other peoples ideas)

If you buy a domain + hosting you OWN the entire blog/site

If you do it on tublr or pintrest you are just creating content for those sites which won't benefit you financially. You are also bound by the rules of those sites while if you buy a domain and set it up how you want you can have everything exactly how you want it to be

A balanced discussion of the pros and cons here >> http://webmarketingtoday.com/articles/thomas-blog-options/

I wouldn't want someone else to "own" my content and have the ability to just shut down my blog on a whim. Squidoo bloggers got hammered recently when their lenses started being unpublished en masse.

As for other people's ideas, I think the key is to add value otherwise your blog post is pointless and going to get penalized as "duplicate" by google. Most ideas are recycled to a certain extent. I wouldn't get overly concerned, but giving credit where it is due will get you lots of friends online.

Thank you will take a look at that link. Ah I see I didn't think about the whole shutting down thing - very poignant, I also wouldn't want my work essentialy 'erased' from the web through no fault of my own!

Yeah duplication isn't what I want to do, but I have a hard time coming up with original ideas - this is how I got disheartened over trying to think of something to sell cos everything I'd thought of had already been done - eventually I settled for something that has been done but I'm going to make mine more desirable than others I've seen. I'm much better at taking an established idea and improving/changing it slightly.

What about this site

Da Money Shed - It has a larger competition in the name of the green site who is fronted by a national TV figure dishing out ridiculously obvious money saving tips.

Does that mean I shouldn't have bothered to create this site? No, as I knew there was a market for people who wanted to earn money online but didn't want to use the green site.

I suppose what I am saying is, if there is a market for those products or a particular blog content and you can either dangle a carrot or make a big BANG to get them to look at your site, they will.

It may take time and a lot of effort but you will notice things like blogs are VERY social. Someone likes a post on Twitter and it can get shared all day long.

It's always worth mentioning as well that the people on this site are VERY helpful to members.

I have had people on here go to ridiculous lengths to help out this site and get the word out there. I have seen other members offer help to each other as well. So whenever you need help we are always here!

Yes, I see what you mean, Its like what a friend who teaches belly dancing for a living said to me - she isn't the first belly dancer to do it, but there was a market in her area for it and she is very successful :)

I was hoping to use a blog to attract people to my products and to give people who buy my products an image person that they could relate to

One of the main reasons I decided to sign up was because I saw how helpful and friendly everyone was ^-^
