@Jon , but is it an improvement? Afraid Sonos is another brand on my sh** list right now. Another Apple-like, marketing and fashion-driven success story - it's certainly not the sound quality; a conventional, well-chosen budget HiFi system costing £500 or so will kick the backside of anything...
Now there's an old-fashioned technology that really has to die.
(I'm talking about broadcast television; haven't watched it in over a decade and certainly haven't seen the ads!)
Speaking as someone who works with (read: designs) this sort of technology, the only question I've got is: for the love of <insert deity of choice>, Why???
I do not eat my own dog food when it comes to this - perhaps because I have a better idea what's in it than your average punter who can't...
Put up a few things, but not so much as a nibble. The market on Etsy is super-saturated and cut-throat, there are over 250 pages of listings in my category alone.
Oh well, it only cost 20p and lasts four months - maybe someone'll bite, but I won't hold my breath!
I think the reason for it (off the top of my head) is that the deadline for paper tax returns for the previous tax year is 31st October. It gives just enough time to get registered and make a return by then if you don't want to file online.
Obviously, it makes sense to register ASAP, but that's...
Actually, the rule is that you must register with HMRC as self-employed by October 5th of your second (tax) year of trading.
So if someone were to be starting right now, they have until October 5th 2018 to register. Tax/NI due is payable by 31 January 2019.
Straight from the horse's mouth here...
So uTest isn't actually dead then?
I've been signed up with them for over 6 months and have never been invited to the sandbox test. Yes, my settings are correct!
Happy to help!
Don't worry about lack of experience, as long as you know what you're doing, "Fake it 'till you make it" applies; we all started somewhere. I don't know much about Github, except that it's fashionable right now, so I can't be of any help there. One thing you might find useful is...
Have to agree with that. As a freelance programmer/developer (Application/Embedded) I see this a lot; the OP's story is depressingly familiar and it's only getting worse. I had a look round Fiverr tonight checking what the rates were for programmers in my field. One was offering his top-priced...
It's a scam.
Nothing genuine, just pages and pages of adverts with skilfully placed or even non-existent or inverted "No thanks" buttons. You WILL get spammed if you use this.
Like @Andrew above, I too got sucked in. I must have been having an off day.
The calls started coming very quickly...
I agree that the rates are ridiculous; I've seen (but not done) some surveys paying 10p or less for 25 minutes. I also had one real beauty some months back where I completed the 25 minute survey with audio and video, got to the final question which asked for my telephone number; needless to say...
There seem to be lots of similar apps floating around at the moment.
I toyed with the idea of installing one on my android tablet, but quickly decided against it for security reasons - there is just no way of easily knowing exactly what data the app is collecting and what use that data will be...
Prolific Academic has been the best one for me, hands down. Maybe not always the highest paying but up there with the best, and there are a few studies that pay big money.
Maybe lack of work is why Usertest.io is being so picky right now - I read somewhere that they accept less than 5% of those who audition.
Their software is flaky too - I gave up on them.
Just buy it - a headset is a useful piece of kit to have anyway.
As far as WhatUsersDo is concerned, I personally don't get many - when they send me a notification I usually screen out on the question before the test - most, but not all, tests are prescreened. Still, I did get £25 last month...
Very, very interesting. Goodness knows I've done enough of that sort of thing for my own use; it never even occurred to me that the files might be saleable. I might just pop over there and set up an account!
