As a complete beginner to making money on the internet, I have a lot of questions, and I’m hoping to be able to answer them here as I make progress.

What I do know is that I have some money making goals:

Pay off my credit card
Buy a MacBook Pro
Buy a fancy blogging camera
Earn £800 per month

As someone who suffers with agoraphobia, I will be focusing on at home opportunities, and will not be using matched betting for the foreseeable future.

So far I have signed up for 20 Cogs (question: what does it mean if the cog is dark grey after you have completed it?), Prolific ac, Populus Live (still awaiting acceptance), and applied for Leapforce today, looking to commit 11-20 hours a week. I am also looking into TakeNotes (question: can I use voice to speech software with TakeNote to speed up the process?)

Are there any other survey sites that you recommend? Help a newbie pay off her credit card ;)

@Andrew has written a guide to earn £300 a month WITHOUT MATCHED BETTING which would be a good start for you by the looks of things ;)

Welcome! I'm an aggie too (agoraphobic) - I've worked from home for the last 4 years. give me a yell if you need a hand, or just want a good old rant. I work for Accuro (transcription, but you need experience with them), do a couple of bits and bobs and no MB as it still confuses me. I get around £600 a month on a good month.

I'm noticing there are a few fellow agoraphobics here, which is comforting! Thank you! It's good to know its possible to work from home, even if we earn less!

Just remember you don't have commuting and lunch costs - and your commute can be done in your PJs!

So to update you:

Prolific ac earnings May-Sept: £7.79

Turned down by Leapforce

Only on 1085 with YouGov.

I really want to focus, and put in the effort to start making my own money, since we moved (yet again...) I am now in a remote village, and though I am making progress with the agoraphobia, there isn't any work anyway.

Ideally I want to earn over £200 per month, and work 20 hours per week.

Due to the remote location, mystery shopping isn't an option, and will not do matched betting due to no money to outlay and a family issue with gambling.

I'm signed up to Prolific (hoping it picks up steam now), MySurvey, Toluna, signed up to TextRanch as interested in doing proofreading (gotta make use of my creative writing degree, am I right?), and debating whether I have the courage to sign up to Appen after Leapforce rejection.

My main skills are writing, editing (but not 100% confident in grammatical rules etc), fairly fast typing speed. I do have experience with blogging, but zero when it comes to monetising.

Can anyone offer me any tips/advice?

Ashlie xo

Rejection in the online world is just part and parcel of trying to work online. I've been sacked from a handful of roles and nothing lasts forever so you sort of need to take it on the chin and move onto the next thing. Just because Leapforce knocked you back doesn't mean you wouldn't be a success at Appen. Heck Leapforce sacked me years ago and I never looked back, it happened, onways and upwards etc.

@Andrew and his thread about how he makes over £300 a month without matched betting in the beginner's board section would probably be a fantastic place for you to start!

Hi I am sorry you have been struggling. £200.00 a month should be achievable.

Some mystery shopping involves calls to call centres or E.mail (GFK is good for this). There is a lot of information on line, some of it on this site about monetizing a blog. It is worth signing up to populus live. I made £50.00 in about 10 months. You need to check prolific regularly. I make about £5.00 a month from them.

Is GFK an app? I will look into that- we only have a co-op in our village, I can’t see many mystery shops there!

Thank you- I will check these out. I suppose these seem like silly questions, but I think losing confidence means you doubt what you know more than ever!

I’m keen to give it another go though, so will scour the money shed for tips!

GFK is a huge company with a mystery shopping arm. I don't have a referral but you should be able to find it by googling.

I’ve spent the last day or so reading posts on here, on TotallyBlogging and trying out apps etc to start again on creating work/money for myself.

I’ve earned £2.36 on Curious Cat during this time, and also managed to sell my old mobile for £120. I’ve been truing to decide what to do with the money; do I put it into my credit card and forget about it, or should I get over my fear of gambling and try and see how much I could make with this £120?

My dream would be to turn this £120 into £1200- but how does an absolute beginner, who knows nothing about gambling/matches betting start to make this happen? I’ve read the explanation thread on the Matches Betting section, but it seems really complicated...

I will have to mull it over for a few days, and look into another bank account anyway, but can anyone break it down for me?

You need to get out of the mindset of thinking Matched Betting is gambling, it isn't.. It's just math... boring boring math as as long as you follow the math you make risk free money from each and every offer you do.

You can also over read I always feel and it ends up making things sounds FAR more complicated than it really is.

My advice if you want to give it a go is to click the banner above and do the free trial with profit accumulator. You'll make around £45 risk free and have your hand held the entire time with VERY clear instructions and easy to follow videos..

You can then decide if it's for you or not...

with no experience of placing a bet.

there is a lot of learning at the start but take your time and ask questions.

I think that’s part of my problem; maths is not my strong suit, and I suffer with anxiety, so I know I’m probably being annoying with these questions, but I really can’t help it.

It’s sort of why I wanted to challenge my thinking on it, as well as myself, and see what I could do with £120!

I will check out the link you mentioned, and get my husband to help me with the betting side of things, as he is into betting.

I will keep track of my earnings from it here too ☺️

I know Jon said its Maths, but all you need to do is put numbers in a calculator no working out is needed.

End of month update:

Selling: £135 (old phone plus dress)
Prolific ac: £15.29
Curious Cat: £4.10
VYPR: 3850 points
MTurk: $4.10 (in 10 days time!)

Still looking into transcribing etc, but just got a new laptop (this week), and need to sort out word etc. I would like to earn as close to £400 next month as possible, so starting up a new routine for October, and really going for it.

Talked to husband about matched betting, he didn't know about the betting 'against' yourself bit, but perhaps it was the technical jargon. Tried to talk to him about each of us putting £50 in, and creating a separate account, and trying to see how much we could make, but he said all betting was a gamble, and that (looking at the offers), betting shops were tightening up rules to stop it. Is this true?

I wish there was a matched betting guide for dummies! Lol

I still have hope that I can figure it out, and maybe have another go at convincing my husband, but if I figure it out, I might go ahead without him anyway, as I have not previously signed up to any places, so I have a clean slate.

Also, I know there might be lots of stupid questions here, but please don't be cross with me because I did promise that this diary would be full of them! Lol
