Hello,
I placed an order on Amazon earlier this month, without any issue : I received it a couple of days later.
I don't know whether I enabled two-step verification by mistake, but when I tried to place another order today, I needed to fill in a code they sent me by text message, to a phone number I no longer use (the sim card is broken and I don't even know where it is, I spent a whole hour looking for it this morning). After trying to find a 'recovery' page, I ended up setting up a brand new account, which took me another hour (there was a captcha thing, filling in the letters and numbers on screen, and my eyesight isn't too good).
I have £10 in vouchers on my 'old' Amazon account (which I've been using for about 25 years) and would like to be able to log back in. I've looked online, and calling the number indicated on the website doesn't seem to be very productive. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

This is one of the major drawbacks of 'two step verification' as it's very much 'buyer beware' in terms of making sure you have access to the device where the code will be sent.

Have you tried using Live Chat on Amazon on your new account to get some help?

A lot of people are having this problem. The live chat seems to be the way to go to sort it out. I had to verify by phone when I bought a new lappy last month. Thankfully I still had the phone number. It would not be good if I lost my account, as I have nearly £400 in vouchers on it.

Hi Jon and Topaz!
I had tried the 'help' section in vain, I did not locate the chatbot!
I did eventually call Amazon. I had a very sweet Indian lady on the phone, she struggled a bit with my name (not British) but I think that the fact that I remembered exactly on what date I had activated that 2-step thing helped, as well as the fact that I knew exactly what I had purchased (I take screenprints). So I flew through security. She also asked me to confirm the details of a bank card I've been using for purchases. I mostly use vouchers (Ipsos etc.) but thankfully I did have a non expired bank card on record!
She sent me by text message a link to my mobile phone to authorise my device. Unfortunately I am currently using a basic mobile phone, not a smartphone, so I struggled a bit to type the link in my laptop's browser, and of course I managed to hang up on her while flaffing around with the phone and the laptop! She called me back! I can now access my account and am quite relieved as I have a purchase planned.
All in all, it took less than 10 minutes. If only Southern Electric, British Gas, Vodafone, BT etc. could be that fast and efficient!
Thanks very much for your help guys!

Glad you got it all sorted.

Two-step verification used to be the absolute bane of our life at work as people would pass devices like ipads and smartphones to each other when they had left the workplace but didn't deactivate two-step verification so we were unable to then set up the device for someone new without a WHOLE lot of bother!
