Approached by Advertiser (1st Time)

Hi Guys,

My partner runs a blog and has been approached by an advertiser for the first time. We have done some research and the company appear to be legit.

Instead of making an offer they have put the ball in my partners court and asked how much she wants to charge for having ads on the blog.

In honesty we are not sure on how much to ask for as we have no previous offers like this to compare it against.

I would be grateful for advice on how much to ask for or hear about similar offers you have had.

Sounds like they want an ad placement but haven't specified a length of time, I gather it could potentially be ongoing.

Saying that they have also asked about a sponsored post.

OK well it's very hard for me to give you sound advice since I can't see the content of the blog (not that i'm saying it's bad)

But I would go in at £150 a month for them to place ad the ad with you and £75 for the sponsored post, £100 if they want you to write it for them

Did you ad an extra 0 on there by accident Jon? I've never known anyone pay £150 a month for an ad space.

I personally have one at £10 per month and another at £15 per month. My ad space at the top is reserved for anyone who is willing to pay at least £30 per month and I offer two months free if they pay for that space for the full year.

My £10 is in the footer and seen on every page, my £15 is a sidebar space which is seen on post pages only - currently both are taken. My DA is 26 and I took the prices from a couple of other blogs who are higher DA than me.

Big difference in price there but I guess the amount you agree on must be affected by more than just DA and PA e.g. traffic volumes, social media connections, and how much profit the advertiser would make and how much they can afford to pay.

What did you settle on @Mark Davies ? if you don't mind me asking.

They moved the goalposts in the end and were going down the route of a paid sponsored post. My other half wasn't happy to promote something she hasn't used and in this case unable to use, so it fell through in the end.

I thank everyone's input though as we had no experience of negotiating this kind of thing before so didn't have a clue on where to start from.
