In this series I am going to talk about how to get started in earning money from home. It may start with only pocket money but follow my instructions and you will be earning £40 for surveys sometimes.
The idea of this series is for people who want to earn money online but don't want to necessary dive into the shark pool of get rich quick schemes and scams.

Making the decision to start earning money from home using your computer can seem like a good idea but the wealth of information out there and 'get rich quick' offers it can be hard to find the Holy Grail of something that (a) works for you and (b) offers a decent amount of money for you time.
The first thing you should do before signing up to anyone offering work is to make a new email address to use. I tend to just add another account with my existing provider (In my case GMail). The advantage to this is that survey invites and the like won't clog up my personal mail but I can see them when I login to check my email regardless, just in a separate mailbox. I suppose you could control your surveys and work invites with use of a filter but you would have to make one each time you sign up to a new site which is why I find it easier to use a separate email address.

Most people start with a bit of searching and come up with a good selection of survey sites to visit. You will soon discover that the key to these sites isn't always promises of £5 a survey that you then get frozen out of but is more to do with consistency. If you can find a site which can offer you 2 or 3 surveys every day for a little less cash and you don't get frozen out then that is going to work out much better in the long run.
The top 3 Survey sites I would recommend for beginners are
Valued Opinions (http://www.valuedopinions.co.uk/)
Opinion World (http://www.opinionworld.co.uk/)
Ipsos (http://www.iap-interactive.com/join/tabid/176/language/en-gb/default.aspx)

Most of these sites pay you via vouchers such as Amazon or iTunes or even Argos. The one thing that is worth mentioning is that Opinion World let's you cashout to PayPal so you can get to £10 and have the money in your bank account within minutes. This can be very handy if you want to spend the money at a shop where a voucher isn't available.

Any site which wants money up front to join should be automatically written of as a scam. There is no reason why you should have to pay to do work for these sites, least of all surveys.
As time goes on you will settle on a few Survey sites which will become your favorites to use. You will learn the best time of day to go on and when they usually send their emails out asking for people to fill in their surveys.
One BIG way to save time on survey sites is to use purely the keyboard. As long as the survey doesn't require any erratic mouse clicks of sliding someones face from happy to sad you should be able to use combination of using the TAB key and the space bar to OK or tick all the boxes and this can really make a difference with how long you spend on these surveys.
After you have been with these sites for a while and have responded to various survey campaigns you will find you get invited to the 'big boy table' so to speak. This means that you get offered the chance to do surveys that take a little longer but pay anything from £20-£75. They are very good to get involved in and while they are few and far between they certainly are worth putting the effort into. I remember doing one where I had to rate 2 hours worth of songs which were cut into 30 second snippets. You were able to take breaks but it drove you slightly mad but for the time I spent doing it, it paid VERY well though and that is what we are trying to achieve here.
Doing surveys is a great way to dip your toes into the water when it comes to earning money by working at home using the Internet. Surveys are always a great constant to have in the background but you should always be chasing the dream of 'doing less for more'.

This is great, thank you!

I was going to mention a website called slicethepie.com. It is a site where you can review songs for anywhere between 5p to 21p depending on your reviewer ranking. Its a great way to make extra money if you have some free time on your hands and listen to music at the same time! :)

I signed up to Valued Opinions yesterday and I received an email today inviting me to take part on a survey. The pay offered was £1.50, great I thought, until I started the survey!

Oh my it had to be going on 30+ pages! it took nearly 15-20 minutes to complete. One hell of a survey!

Jon you should definitely pin this thread, its very informative and helpful !

I would go as far as to say you should produce this sort of thing in the shape of a newsletter sent to your users maybe once per mth, if they are as good as the one above, once word gets around about it, I think you may gain some new members.

Just a thought

Cheers

This is an excellent idea. I would love to receive a helpful news letter every month or so. Could possibly be a way of attracting more users to the site as well.

Hi Jon, I know this is an older post, but I thought it's still worth a comment as it still contains useful information, I also have a question. If you feel different let me know and I won't comment on older posts again.

I use both Ipsos and Valued Opinions, but I barely get any surveys from Valued Opinions. I get one every 1-2 weeks if that. I have been completing surveys for just over 2 months now.

Do you have any idea why I barely get any surveys from them and how I can fix the issue?

Hope to hear back soon,

Jacob Barnard

Because your demographics don't fit probably or you haven't filled in whatever profile section valued opinions has fully

I'm not sure about my demographics and my profile is 98% completed. It would be 100% but it won't let me update my county as I can't confirm my email through the form. I think I emailed them a while back about this issue, but they didn't reply.

Each survey will have different demographics, unfortunately you won't always fit them.

A lot of the surveys are focused towards women, 25-34, with spare household money, it is just how it is. Not all, but a lot.

I complete 1-2 Valued Opinions surveys daily usually, sometimes more, I also have had two special projects from them in the last fortnight alone (Where you have to carry out different activities and provide details - I can't really say more) worth £25 and £10.

It is just one of those things sometimes, there is no magic formula to getting more surveys sadly!

Well, that's annoying lol. Not for you just me lol. Most of my surveys are coming from Prolific Academic at the moment.

I'd keep going with it for a bit longer. I joined valued opinions a long time ago and after a while I'd usually have 2, 3 sometimes 4 surveys waiting for me to complete (though I'd get screened out of some) I've been a bit lax recently and so haven't received many at all. Hopefully if they see you are an active member you'll start receiving more :)

I will keep using it for now as I know it's legit and offers high paying surveys, even though they're less frequent than other sites.

Yeah, hopefully :)
