I have a blog but problem is it is a co.uk which I thought at the time was the best one to have and yet I am getting allot of international visitors so think .com would be better so it covers everyone. I notice lots of people have gone for the .com.
I know I would have to get Adsense approval for the new domain as well as Skimlinks once I have some content on there but I do have until next June to get everything sorted as that is when my uk domain runs out. I only want to maintain one Blog.
Thinking of myblogcorner.com therefore keeping it more general so I can post different things on there rather than being restricted to just one subject.
Any ideas or feedback would be very much appreciated.

I would definitely go for a .com - they are supposed to rank better internationally. Also, if you use a .co.uk, people from overseas may well assume that the content is not relevant to them and avoid clicking.

But, are you saying that this is going to be a brand new site or are you going to try to transfer the content from the .co.uk to the new site? Not sure what the search engines would make of transferring the content? There might be a google notification process to avoid punishment/confusion.

Well GoDaddy actually have an offer on at the moment where you can get a .com for £1.40 with all the fees (I bought one earlier) so it might be worth buying the domain name and redirecting it to your current content?

Once you've been approved for Adsense you won't need to apply for each site - you can put the code on any site.

Hope that helps

There is a YouTube video here about transferring your content without harming your SEO >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofkGrr6lhFE

It is a bit long, but one of the steps is to inform Google.

Thanks. I am not quite sure that I want to completely transfer everything over. I wanted to diversify a bit.

That is a good price for a .com. I will look at godaddy. I am with 1&1 hosting wise so I need to work out price of domain and then transfer fees and see whether if buying from godaddy then transferring to 1&1 makes it cheaper than buying off 1&1 directly.
That is good about Google Adsense saves a bit.

You don't need to transfer the domain to 1&1, actually, I've read that it is better to have the hosting from a separate company...I can't find the article now.

I have no personal experience of moving content from one domain to another.

I have though bought themoneyshed.com when it became available and just directed that to the .co.uk website and kept the content all the same.

I feel the .co.uk domain is more powerful than a .com for a site like this

I agree that for a company/forum that is unequivocally uk based, .co.uk makes sense.but, when you start to take over the money making world ...

I think I need to go to .com and I want to keep with 1&1 hosting for the moment as my husband is using it for his site.
Buying from elsewhere then transferring to 1&1 isn't cost effective really and it looks like if I want to use the Wordpress Click and build with 1&1 I have to have the domain transferred over or bought from 1&1.
Thing is with my current uk one it has never worked properly. I can't do any of the Wordpress updates to work I just get an error. So it is old and I am thinking that it probably isn't secure when I can't do that.
Starting with a brand new Blog taking what I want from the old Blog and changing it slightly so it isn't exactly the same should keep things ok as far as Google goes.
I have a Commission Junction Account so need to start using it with my new Blog.
When the uk domain runs out next June I then will just have the one Blog.
A blog is better as a .com. A forum like this is meant for and targeted for uk people so the uk domain is alright.

Now a name that I like. I really am not convinced myblogcorner.com is the best name though it is available. Blogging about making money but also other things like moneysaving etc.

I actually like the name Jon suggested in the 'Name my website thread' blog2shop though it isn't available I could try something similar to that.
Nice not too long too short and could be used to blog about anything.

I personally believe that the shorter the domain name the better

more letters to type or more parts to remember in the URL could be a hindrance

Yes I agree. It is a learning curve with blogging and choosing the right name and what to go for as to whether it should be a .uk or a .com.

Ok thanks for the info. I just cannot find anywhere on 1&1 to tell me that if I have bought the domain elsewhere I can definitely use their Click and Build Wordpress plugin.

Great I will be able to buy through Godaddy to get the £1.40 .com price then can add it to my hosting package through 1&1 by changing the DNS Servers to 1&1. It can take 24hrs-48hrs for the change to take place but once done I can then use the domain for the Wordpress Click n Build Plugin at 1&1 as far as hosting goes.
Godaddy have good domain deals running. :)

YAY! £1.40, I couldn't believe it! It is limited to one per customer, so I wish I'd bought Tony's domain on his own account and then one for me on my own account, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Great price for a .com. Thanks for pointing this out to me.
