Its no secret that I love gaming as probably proved in the new gaming thread ;) but you often can't make money off of gaming related stuff due to the copyright protection etc but what about blogging and using affiliate links?

I'm talking about Minecraft in particular here, its a game I love to play and know a fair bit about in terms of modding and servers and could probably knock up a fan fiction or two that I could release in short chapters as blog posts (many people have written basic ones for Kindle). What are the possible pitfalls here? I know that Kristian said someone needing to get caught out by Britax for their domain name so I know I couldn't use the word Minecraft in the domain name. The use of images here again confuses me - I know I wouldn't be able to use assets as images but what about inspiration for logos? or screen shots of the game? What about writing about Minecraft cakes that the images of are already shared on Pintrest?

Its all a headache really but don't know if anyone knew any more. If I could make it work it could be great in addition to my business venture

You would not be profiting directly from the content, more from around it so I don't see there being a problem with it. Everyone shares their gameplay content, hell ps4 even has a SHARE button!

That was my initial thoughts, just wanted to make sure I do things 'by the book' being my worrying self I'm paranoid of accidentally doing something I shouldn't be that could cause me to get into trouble!

I can't imagine it would be a problem. People write about all sorts of copyrighted things like TV shows and movies on blogs and still earn money from the advertising on the blogs... and they use screen shots from TV shows and movies without any problems as far as I know.

You should be fine - if people such as Pewdiepie can create videos all about popular games and reach 8 million+ subscribers and not get sued, I think blogging about it *should* be fine
