I worry if I turned adsense on on this site I would end up getting served adverts for outdoor hardware goods and garden sheds lol

Im still trialing it out on a few blogs and You Tube videos, so I don't know what what the long term will bring. I'm always a bit wary in having to many adverts which can cause a distraction to potential customers.

Yeah it's always a bit of a fine line you have to walk between trying to make an income from the ads but not put too many in to drive new members/viewers away

Popup ads are enough to pop me off using a site entirely

Yes, It's always a fine balancing act between adverts and content. If you have to many ads and not enough good info then, you probably won't get a lot of returning visitors and that can be the price you pay in having to many Christmas lights on your site.

Wooo my estimated earnings for my blog for this month (so far) is 97p! I don't know how much my finalized earnings will be but anywhere near 97p would be great as I only set up adsense at the end of last month.

Comparing my You Tube review videos against my blogs/sites for Google Ads, there's one clear winner - You Tube. This seems to be a better route than blogs which I personally find quite surprising.

Maybe I need to learn how to make videos!

If you have Windows Movie Maker on your PC/laptop then, you can do easily do video slideshows of any product you want to promote and if your YT channel has been accepted then, you can monetize the videos with ads. I'm still in trial mode with Google Ads, but the video route seems a lot better than blog/website ads.

The problem is by the time you have learned that then there will be some other new funky way to earn money via ads.

You can do a 2 minute slideshow on Windows Movie Maker and upload it to You Tube in less than 20 minutes. You would then optimize your video with tags, a good description and ping the URL with a site like Pingfarm. Your video will be indexed within 3/4 hours, so I think it's certainly worth it, if you not only have your videos monetized with Google Ads, but a link to your site/blog in the description area.

Ok I have been approved with Google adsense on my Blog.
I used it a few years ago on a Blogspot one and got good results from it so now back to using it again with my own hosted Blog.
Making money with Google adsense and youtube sounds a good way to earn some income as well.

Yes I like Wordpress much better than anything else. More customisable plus I can change to a new design if I want a new look.
VTR is Viral Traffic Rush you can earn commissions but it also helps advertise your sites through banners. You have your own page to promote with your own banners plus your referrers banners. It goes viral if you have referrals which I do have they have their banner on a page they promote as well as your banners. You can earn cash but I really use it to help promote my Blog and other sites. Just an extra thing I use.

I've not long started with Google Ads and have been placing them on my blogs and YT videos. I've noticed that, most of my money is coming from the videos, so I'm going to put more energy in to my review videos and to monetise all of them with ads in 2014 and beyond.

I definitely must give that a go too.
It is good to have a few different income streams.

It's good that you guys are finding out what income streams are working for you.

I guess you will need to let each one run for a number of months before you see which is the best for earning an income online (and a passive one hopefully at that)

Odd to think 15 years ago it was all clicking on banner ads constantly to try and earn an income online.

End of my second month of making money online and I thought I'd expand with some blogging. I've started with a simple theme of 'weekend parent ideas' to get me started. Here's the story so far:

1. Domains purchased (Godaddy);
2. Wordpress installed;
3. Some simple 'starter' content added (home, about, contact, review, blog, 5 posts);
4. Linked Twitter, youtube and google+ accounts created;
5. video content added to youtube and starting to cross link with site.

My question is: When do I monetise? My thoughts were to get to 20-30 posts and product reviews first so that people coming to the site aren't instantly put off. Does this sound reasonable? What is everyone's experience?

I should make this many posts by middle of next month and I'm going to start registering for the UK Amazon Affiliate site this evening so that I understand the mechanics.

Once I'm up to thirty posts I want to start on the second and third blogs to get them moving. Any feedback .. no matter how harsh(!) is very gratefully accepted.

Thanks again to Jon and everyone for such an amazing forum to be able to pitch these questions!

Peter

Okay I shall post something every Sunday with what I earned in the past week. Not sure whether to count Adsense or affiliates as I technically haven't earned them until I reach the cash out threshold?
