I'm just entertaining the thought of starting a blog and probably in the personal finance type area. Thing is, I feel like this area is already well and truly saturated and not sure what else I would be bringing to the party really.

Also not sure I would actually be any good at it, but that's a different issue...

Let me flip that for you

you are proposing that someone is gonna to write the exact same content with the exact same style covering the exact same points and have the exact same viewpoint and promote that in the exact same way on social media alongside doing the exact same seo etc

because if so then I agree, if not then you are fine

there is another internet out there for everyone l!

Ur I'm not really sure. I just know that when I search out there for blogs I can't find what it is I am looking for (which suggests I could have something different). But there does seem to be a lot out there in general.

Blogs aren’t “websites” in the traditional sense. They are about putting your own personal spin on topics which is what you want to do!

It's a competitive space. However...

Think about the restaurant quarter of your nearest town or city (pre COVID-19, at least!). A restaurant on its own might pull in enough diners to be viable. But as more restaurants open up, the district starts to become a destination in itself. Bars start to open, and theatres and clubs follow, and more people visit. Each business is stronger for having several competing venues.

I think that the online personal finance space is similar. 'Online money making' has had a somewhat shady reputation, but as more and more credible sites emerge, the more credible the sector as a whole will become.

You'll intrinsically find your niche through the audience that you pursue, your writing style, and your individual focus. If you can't find what you're looking for then "be the change that you want to see". Hopefully your angle will help you stand out.

Been reading up on SEO for the past 24 hours and now have a headache!

Most of the structure of my site is there and I'm busy trying to write content now. However, as I write, I'm finding that my blog is going in a slightly different direction to what I had originally expected... I'm just going to go with it and see what happens!

what things about SEO are you learning that you didn't know before?

I also change my mind about whether I should go ahead and do the blog about 20 times a day! Probably spent a bit too long to give up now.

write first
then write some more
then write some more more.

The great thing about blogging is even if people DON'T visit a page, it is still there. You can re-purpose content or even delete pages. No-one will care.

I was told to picture an avatar of an ideal reader and write for him or her. I expect your avatar would be different to Jon's or the reverend. You need to answer their questions and entertain them.
