What a chore of a task it is lol
From writing endless guest posts for other blogs within your niche through to commenting on other blogs a few days a week. I can feel like it's never ending and while it is the far, FAR cheaper option than paying SEO experts (and this is coming from the guy who spent £200 for a SEO REPORT which was basically a Fiverr PDF being emailed to me!) it isn't half a heck of a slog
I'm going through another round of guest posts at the moment and am doing about 20 of them. So that's 20 x 800 word articles (16,000 words). Each article has to be slightly different in how it drives the narrative and fit in with a different demographic on each site but continues to include the import anchor terms I want to rank for.
I know if I want 'flash in the pan' type traffic I could just spend £100 on Facebook ads or whatever but that doesn't come with the 'user intent' that I get when people reach my sites via Google!
I've even read quite a few posts on SEO forums like WarriorForum and Digitalpoint from people asking if building backlinks is dead but I just don't get how else Google would ever rank content.
If it has 2 sites about elephants and 1 has 200 links to it which are total trash websites and the other has 50 links to it from relevant websites to do with animals and safaris it will always rank the 2nd website higher than the first...
I don't get what other metric they could use rank which is why I sadly can't see an end to the need to have to build backlinks to your site!
